Parking prangs are another issue and just how close people get when they manouver their car into the space in front or behind your minor. I've had a rear light dinged on my van and the surrounding glass fibre just sprang back to shape (I have a glass fibre cab). On the front however, the valence has...

Just spoke to SPL Jonathon, they were very helpfull. Cost would be £200-250 for the chemical strip and oil pacification with the same again for the E coating. Advantages over galvanizing are that no extra holes will need to be drilled for drainage, no chance of distortion and the chemical strip will...
Can the chassis be left in the acid for a longer period, to remove the rust.
Yes, that's what I thought they did but not the two I tried. :( As soon as I mentioned surface rust they said it needs to come off first.
Failing this take it...

Thanks for the pic Russ, that does look nice. Yes £120 does sound cheap but as I found out the acid dip wasn't meant to remove any rust as such just to clean up the surface to take the zinc. My concern was the extra cost of the sand blasting and how effective this would be inside the chassis. I was ...

Anyone galvanized a chassis?

I have a van chassis that I am thinking of getting galvanized. It is sound with just surface pitted rust from long term storage. I've had a couple of rough quotes, the cheaper being about £120+vat and preperation based on a minimum weight of anything up to 100kgs. When I discussed the process with t...

bmcecosse, I love that hoist swing thing. Plenty of room either side as well. It looks just like an old Haltrac gantry that I have been trying to get a hold for ages. Now I'll be looking for a swing instead which should be easier to find!

I've had discs for at least 15 years now. Pads get changed every 20-25k but the discs themselves have got plenty left on them. Mainly busy motorway driving so they do get stood on quite alot. Not sure why modern discs don't last as long.

What about one of those portable jump start thingies?
They charge off of the car cigar lighter and have a socket for accessories to plug in to. They have a light on them and a voltmeter. Some even have a tyre inflator which is handy especially if you have a camp bed to blow up!

Don't give up Paul, if you come up with something or even if it ends up with a run of new ones from Hadrian it will be useful for others. It's an important discussion. I personally don't have the space or facilities to obtain and strip down a complete vehicle for a secondhand chassis. I also don't h...

Crikey, there is a few threads running on this van chassis thingy now! :D The workshop manual has some measurements for alignment checks of the rear spring mounts and torsion bar mounts. I think there was someone in South Wales who made some full chassis legs, Russ can probably confirm this. With th...
