Ah, so if I pull the choke out a bit when I hear it, that would enrich the mixture and suppress it if it is pinking?

I'd describe what I am hearing as a hissing but could be interpreted as a rattling. I've replaced the K&N filter element with a standard paper one, had no effect. There are no leaks as far as I can tell around the filter housing.

I have always had mine tested yearly and will continue to do so regardless of the legalties. £54 is not much for a second pair of eyes to check basics, and that barely buys a tank full of fuel these days, so I don't think cost is a valid argument against.

Reviving an old thread, so there is no issue with undoing one head nut, torqueing it back up, then re-torqueing after a run? Won't lead to a cracked or warped head?
