Rear Wheel Bearings
Should there be any play? Last couple I have fitted have had a small amount of play when fitted. Is that right?

Re: " Best" Upgrade
Like the idea of a heated screen , do you know how they would affect the Dynamo ? My gut instinct is that it would struggle. You will need a heated screen on those days when you also need lights, wipers & heater, so that will be a full electrical load, and they struggle with that if you are doi...

Re: MOT & how else would you prove roadworthy…..
The point about an MOT is the car has to be roadworthy for it. I did my brakes and wasn't happy with the result. Upcoming MOT meant I had to redo them instead of just living with it. Some things are not so obvious. How many owners check their seatbelt mountings? My Minor was nearly failed because of...

Re: MOT & how else would you prove roadworthy…..
All it'll take is a spate of accidents and/or fatalities involving classics that are not MOT'd in which the roadworthiness of the vehicles is at fault or suspect, and there will be a clamour for "something to be done".

Any ideas what this is
Can anyone tell me what this is please?
The inside of the lower piece is threaded, like like the same thread as on the rear axle, where the hub nut fits.
It was given to me, I think it's some sort of puller or extractor.

Re: Minors on Tour 2025 Casualties
The rear wheel falling off on the M4 on the way to France was the most dangerous failure. The owner thinks they had over-tightened the wheel nuts having bought a new longer ratchet handle and not using a torque wrench. This is an important lesson! They had a full car and this could have ended in ca...

Re: Superflex Bushes ESM
I was going to ask how it copes with the reduced compliance/resilience between the tie-rod & the chassis leg. I guess for normal road use this set up isn't really necessary, and may be harmful on rough roads. Could you do it the other way round, fit the rose joint between tie-rod & lower wis...

Re: Superflex Bushes ESM
I see, and the stepped washer fits in the original tie-bar bracket and locates the bolt on the end of the bracket for the adjustable tie bar?
Presumably the washer is 1/2" inner dia?

Re: Superflex Bushes ESM
Looks good, is that an adjustable tie-bar? Is the rose joint available as a part from suppliers?
Thanks,Neil

Can you post a photo please Phil?philthehill wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 11:32 am Because of the above and requiring a positive front location of the tie bar I have elected to delete the rubber/poly bushes and fit a rose joint instead.

Re: indignity of being Towed
Rotor arms are not infallible either, they can crack & short and if bad enough fail totally. If you haven't got a spare you're going nowhere.
Of course, that applies whether you have electronic or mechanical ignition.

Re: indignity of being Towed
This is one of those issues that splits people. Personally I've had a Powerspark electronic distributor fitted for 4 years now without issue. If it fails the yes it is a showstopper, but it needs no maintenance and runs beautifully. I carry a complete spare mechanical distributor ready to slot in, w...

Re: indignity of being Towed
I feel quite fortunate sometimes. I drove the car I bought last summer from London to Munich, bought an absolute ton of spares and didn't need any of them! Thanks in part to the seller being a great bloke and doing some work on the car before I picked it up. Likewise, we took our Traveller to Perug...

Weather strip on underside of doors
The metal channel that sits on the bottom of the doors and retains the rubber weather strip is now available from ESM. It's been unobtainable for some time. https://www.morrisminorspares.com//body-inc-panels-trim-c21/door-fittings-c26/metal-channel-for-exc122-fits-on-bottom-of-door-p828184/s824921 I...

Re: Tyre rotation (between front & rear axles)
I don't understand why radials would need to be kept in their original position "to keep their balance"?
Surely if they are balanced off the car then it doesn't matter which position they go in?

Tyre rotation (between front & rear axles)
Anyone got any thoughts on rotating tyres between front & rear, and from o/s to n/s? I know usual advice is swap front straight to rear, then put rear o/s on front n/s & v.v. as below:-
What sort of mileage and/or time intervals should this be done at?

Re: Modern car woes-headlight bulb replacement
To replace the headlight bulbs on our Jaguar X-type the dealer said the bumper had to come off. I reality after a bit of trial and error you could get a hand down behind the cluster to flick off the clamps & remove the backing. But had to make a long wire hook to be able to get the clamps back ...
