Re: Spare wheel retaining bolt

Mike,

many thanks for your response - I am beginning to wonder if the problem lies with the thread in the hole in the boot floor - I will try cleaning it up and see what happens.

Regards,

Re: Spare wheel retaining bolt

Hi again. I have tried the bolt that I have (which is 7/16" BSF) in my daughters 1970 1098 and IT FITS! Since the bolt was missing from her car I have left it there - so that is one sorted. All I have to do now is find out what thread I need in the 1960 948. Could someone with a similar age 948...

Re: Lead replacement

The minimania site quotes the chamber volume in the CAM4180 head at 25.5 cc, as opposed to the 2A629 head (which they suggest is the 948 Minor version) at 24.5 cc. The difference is small, expecially when you factor in the volume which is in effect added to the combustion chamber by the thickness of...

Re: Spare wheel retaining bolt

Thanks to all for the replies so far. The bolt I have (which has a T-bar fitted to it - is that correct?) appears to be 7/16" 18tpi, which would make it a BSF thread, but it does not want to engage very far with the thread in the body. There is no guarantee of course that it is the correct item...

Re: Lead replacement

Hi again, I seem to have answered my own question - from the minimania web site it would seem that the unleaded 998 mini head is the CAM4180. The only downside to using I can see is that the nominal combustion chamber volume is very slightly larger than the original Minor one, which will give a slig...

Greetings,

What is the part number for the later unleaded 998 mini heads?

Spare wheel retaining bolt

Greetings, I am trying to tidy up a few things on my son's 948 and I wonder if anyone can tell me the thread size of the bolt which secures the clamp against the spare wheel? I have a bolt, but it does not seem to be the right thread (or of course the thread in the captive nut is bu**ered). Either w...

Re: Does front suspension setting affect the rear?

Hi Guys,

thanks for the guidance - my daughters 1098 is down at the nearside rear, so I shall now look at the front suspension settings!

Re: Does front suspension setting affect the rear?

I should have made myself clearer - what I am specifically referring to is the situation where one side of the front suspension differs in height from the other - does that then get reflected to any degree at the rear?

Does front suspension setting affect the rear?

Greetings,

to what extent (if any) does a change in the front suspension height setting affect the rear suspension height?

How to make sure your sump gasket seals

Amongst other tasks I have been undertaking on my daughter's 1098, I have been working my way through the oil leaks (wrong ill-fitting oil filler cap, burst diaphragm in oil pressure switch) and finally the remaining task of the sump gasket (leaking at the usual place, the rear cork seal). Having re...

Re: Front suspension "locked" - Problem Identified

I spoke of Charlie Ware's because he's local, as is Moss, both being in Bristol.

bmcecosse - you are right about the pin, and a new eybolt is needed as well!

Re: Front suspension "locked" - Problem Identified

Greetings once again, thanks for the helpful replies to my query. Further dismantling has revealed the cause of the "locking" - see photo below. [frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1313243359_3826 [/frame] Note the position of the pin within the bush - off-centre and towards the top...

Front suspension "locked" - Problem Identified

Greetings, I am in the process of changing the front shock absorbers on my daughter's car. The car is supported on both sides on axle stands under the main chassis members. I noticed that when, as part of the shock absorber removal, I jacked up the lower suspension arm on the nearside, the suspensio...

To bmcecosse & les,

many thanks for your input - I think I shall use the caravan sealing tape, which sounds much like the 3M product mentioned.

Sealant for floor panel

Greetings one and all, I have been obliged to remove the floor panel over the gearbox on my son's Minor 1000 (brake pedal repair) and now I need to re-seal it to the floor when it is replaced. The original sealant looked very much like the non-setting stuff plumbers use to seal waste outlets into ba...

Ray & Willie. many thanks to both of you for your replies. The full engine number is 10V/189E/H39847 so I guess it is a high compression dynamo version. I will send the V5C back to DVLA and get the capacity shown on the document changed. Best wishes to you both, John Liddle Backwell, N. Somerset...

Engine size query

Greetings, I have recently bought a 1970 2-door Minor 1000 saloon for my daughter and I find myself puzzled by the Engine Number, which, according to the "Technical Manual" CD is a van engine (it is a 10V engine type). I initially thought the car must have had a transplant some time in the...
