Yeah the pump is gushing the fuel through, but the bowl is running dry. seems like the needle is sticking. I have a carb repair kit which has a replacement valve, but the old one is not budging. the float looks like it has been bent up out of the way at some point and the float hinge/spindle is bent...

I'll tell you what, I just had the same scenario and had to grind the bugger off. The one I put on from DSN was a lousy fit, the holes were nominally in the right place and the quality of the metal was not great! It nows seeps a bit from one stud, but not gonna change it again!

Thanks again chaps, I will check it all again using your suggestions. Pedal up, something to hold it in place, then pull the cable tight through and tighten. Hook spring on last - Thank god I dont have to rig a choke cable..it never had one fitted!

Thanks guys, the inner cable itself is ok, not frayed. I think I have not rigged the connection up to the carb correctly. Are their any 'Murphy-isms' involved in rigging this?

Accelerator cable

Hi Guys, I was so happy to be at the stage of having my engine back together, manifolds on, new water pumps, thermostats, alternator overhauled..it was all going so well. Until I come to refit the throttle cable. For the life of me, something is just not right. It seems to rigged as per haynes manua...

Thanks guys, I think given higher external temperatures here (a balmy 26C today) I might be better with EP90 (Plus I happen to have some handy) - better viscosity and probably last better than 20/50

seat belts

My 66 4dr saloon has never had any seat belts installed (not a requirement here in malaysia..and police pretty laxed so no one really bothers) - but I have purchased a set of inertia reel front belts and wondered if any one had installation tips or problems they could share. Thanks and Seasons Greet...

Front/Rear Dampers

Hi All, and a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you all. I am just reading up on doing a clean up and top up on the front/rear dampers on my saloon. the good ol' haynes manual says top up with sae20w. sae20w not very common here (20/50 yes) what is the best oil to use in the dampers and would ...

Thanks Shawn, understand - the spring pressure keeps it all in place once assembled.

Nice to have someone in a similar time zone! - do you have any contacts for good spares support in QLD? i can get things brought across from there easily.

Cheers

Valve and Spring Assembly

I have started to overhaul to the cyl head on my 1098 (you may recall the removal saga) - When I started to remove the valves I noticed that 2 of the valve springs were missing the circlip that clips round the 2 shims at the top of the valve stem. I have not been able to locate any of these from any...

Just a thought after reading this, but incorrect tyre pressures can cause that type of vibe. I'd also look at the condition of my tyres and rims before shelling out to have them balanced, aligned etc...always best to check the basics first.

Here's a thing, first thing I noticed when i took the first valve out was that there was no oil seal on the valve stem, either no one bothered putting one on last time or it disentegrated over time. ..given local bodge shops I reckon the first option. My questions are 1. best way to clean out the ru...

Cyl Head Removal ..The Saga...

Just thought I'd update you chaps on the saga of the stuck cyl head. I got it off a couple of days ago, and patience was the key. As I was busy travelling with work I only had a chance to pop down and dribble hyd oil down the studs and over the head each week for the past 4-5 weeks. (also waiting fo...

I think I will have more chance getting a Mini thermo housing, thanks, again I will have to hit the streets and back alley garages to see what i can find. I have had a tip off that in some of the old towns up north in malaysia there are more old motors running around, which may offer more opportunit...

To give you an idea, a set of studs and a couple of decals and a gasket was 18 quid from DSN, to ship this small package to malaysia would cost 27 quid! - 45 quid for parts may not appear much but i loathed to pay so much to the post office! luckily for me I found someone travelling to malaysia from...

There are a few Moggies and Minis around in Malaysia, but most in worse condition than the one I am resurrecting and still running around (No MOT here). Singapore has extremely strict regs about old cars and unless they are mint classics, they are not permitted. Getting parts is a problem from Uk du...

Thanks again for all the tips, i think the hydraulic pressure is probably the least severe, then if that fails again I will try the string. I am not in a position to break up the thermostat housing as i will never be able to get a spare here, so will try the limescale remover first. But you are righ...
