Re: Horn mechanism for 1966 minor
Does anyone know what type of horn mechanism was fitted in 1966 minors? See photo. Thanks If you're looking for accuracy of equipment for a particular year, I suggest your best bet is to find a copy of AKD3541 online and then you can readily cross check part numbers to Car numbers. I don't think St...

Re: Electric Fuel Pump SU v Hardi
Hi there folks. I had minor problem with fuel pump (sticky points) and have considered that at Monty's age (56) I might just change the fuel pump complete and have looked at SU vs Hardi on the ESM website (I trust ESM and am sure they will be selling the correct Hardi pump to suit the pressure need...

Re: ignition light
The simplest explanation is that while fitting the wiring for the Electronic Ign you've disturbed the field (thin wire) connection to the Dynamo/Alternator.
Look at what you've done in fitting the Electronic Kit. You've connected something wrongly somewhere.....

Re: electric fuel pump?
Hi Be wary of that braided fuel line, When I got my car (2017), it had ordinary rubber hose, but the PO had a new braided one, same end as that one, in the boot ready to fit. To the best of my memory, I fitted it in 2019 sometime. Around this time last year, after several months of sitting in the ga...

Re: Octane value in the sixties
I don't think 3-star fuel is the same as E10 is it? The old star rating would have contained lead for a start. I'm not sure whether they also contained ethanol back then though. A lot of petrol contained ethanol. There's loads about it online. But nobody got uptight about it like now, possibly beca...

Re: electric fuel pump?
Tapping the fuel pump did the trick, hoping it might continue to work ok now. Thanks very much for the input :tu1: Geoberni - The car has only done around 100 miles or so in that four years. I've spent a lot of my spare time fixing things done incorrectly or not well enough, by the previous owner's...

Re: Beehive Springs -again!
It's been all out war on the FB Group this past few days, just because a guy asked where he could get one from. It immediately poked the bear with a few saying they aren't needed. One guy posted: Not really of any use once the drum is on and adjusted. They are used to keep the shoes aligned on assem...

Phil wasn't sure from the pic what the seal was and was just guessing, would also be easier if op said what it was :tu1: I'm with you on this, I'd never have guessed that it was anything to do with a clutch, since the Minor didn't have one as built. My first thought was a brake slave cylinder, then...

Thanks for the correction about the humped cover :tu1: and the info for the op. How did you identify mine is a recon pump? The documentation with the car has a garage receipt that just says replacement pump fitted. Is the aluminium tag that says electronic not SU/ Burlin original? Just based on the...

The car was equipped with seat belts. I want to install them now, but I can't figure out which is which. ... The front left and right are the same and not mirrored. They should normally be mirrored. This illustration you've posted is for the Drivers side (in a RH Drive). Note the way the buckle sit...

Re: electric fuel pump?
If standard the pump is under the bonnet, passenger side on side of battery compartment. It has no fuse with ignition on 12v to terminal and make sure earth is ok. With ignition on give it a tap and see if it starts clicking, it has points that maybe stuck. Mine is electronic type as it says on lab...

Re: LED Indicator help
Still waiting for it to arrive, but noticed today that with one side of the indicators activated on the stalk, pulling the Hazard switch makes the Hazards work, even with no flasher unit in it, and the two wires just left in mid air. Any thoughts? As I mentioned back in October, original 70s units ...

I was looking for some general purpose grease today, found some and noticed printed along with other stuff, that it was usable up to 5 years from manufacture date. I didnt know that !! Yes, lubricants etc have a shelf life. When I was in the RAF (heavens knows what they do now, there's so many cont...

Re: Multimeter recommendation
One more comment that some don’t know/understand. DMMs rely on the internal battery (usually a 9V PP3). Readings can (and will) be affected by that battery as its voltage reduces - giving incorrect readings. I think you're potentially causing undue concern, since any reasonable quality electronic d...

Re: Rear brake shoes
I thought that the rear bearings were lubricated by the diff oil. Yes, as originally intended and designed; but I imagine the bearings we get now, just as with the bearings fitted 70 years ago, are simply the appropriate size, 'off-the-shelf'. Bearings back then were always supplied as made, for lu...

Re: Rear brake shoes
Modern bearing are often packed with grease and 'sealed for life'; on the principle that if it's sealed the grease can't escape, so reducing maintenance and the chances that it will fail due to lack of lubrication.

Re: Tachometer wiring check
I'm not by any means knowledgeable about aftermarket Tachometer installation, I've never had one, but that Red wire which is presumably power worries me. As an electrical engineer, I dislike cables wound around other cables like that, it's creating an electromagnetic field; probably too small to int...
