Re: Door 'courtesy' switches

My Section N is the Electrics.... gotta love the old books.
Reminds me of my technical training in the 1970s RAF; most of our manuals were from the 50's as a lot of the training equipment was old 50's stuff that had been consigned to the training role.

Re: Door 'courtesy' switches

philthehill - Thanks for that description. I realise now that there is a channel down the inner side of the door pillar area that's not evident from the panel diagrams. My Moggie has received a Reconditioned 948cc engine about 7 years or so ago, so that's hopefully covered enough for my purposes in ...

Re: Rooftop hitching 1974 caravan!

That might have changed now Lobby, the powers that be have removed "granddad rights" from the driving license. I used to be able to drive a 7.5t and have done but since two years ago that right was removed unless I took an extended training course for 7.5t vehicles and trailer towing incl...

Re: Here's a new one.

My 'Other Car' is a Ford Kuga and I'd had it nearly 3 years before I found that if the remote's Unlock Button gets somehow operated for several seconds in your pocket, all the windows open! I got up this morning and noticed that the neighbour's car parked on their drive right outside their front doo...

Re: Aldi type places.

I don't know what the current situation is with them but when Aldi/Lidl first came over here and didn't use bar code scanning checkouts, the staff were paid a considerable mark-up over standard supermarket staff as they were required to remember the prices. The also don't have set roles, there's no ...

Re: Door 'courtesy' switches

Thanks.
I think I'll just accept that the illustrations in the 'Official' BL manual are not much better than a Haynes manual
A case of 'Take yours apart and see which diagram it's most like'!

Re: Lucas tool

For the past 40+ years of DIY with such switches, I've always used needle nose pliers. Same principle for unscrewing watch backs too. e.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6-Mini-Extra-Long-Nose-Needle-Plier-Jewellery-Craft-Beads-Beading-Pliers-Hobby-/132152821469?epid=908538047&hash=item1ec4ec0...

Re: Door 'courtesy' switches

As yours is a '55 car and hence a 'facelift' split-screen, my inclination would be to follow the section of the manual relating to Series II/1000/Traveller bodywork. The section on the MM bodywork is probably also of some relevence to early Series II with the 'cheesegrater' grille . What I find a b...

Yep, after having the boot shut for 48Hrs, not a whiff of petrol fumes when I opened it today.
It must have all been vapours permeating the old orange hose.

Re: Door 'courtesy' switches

Palacebear - Yes, if I correctly understand the varied collection of wiring diagrams in the BL Manual, as an early 2 door it didn't even qualify for a lamp! "Interior Light (Fitted to 4 door saloon models only)" The Bodywork section of the manual is a bit confusing as it has illustrations ...

Door 'courtesy' switches

My '55 2 Door doesn't have door courtesy switches (it doesn't have an interior light) but I'd like to fit some as part of restoring the Traficators. Basically to make them drop back in if a door is opened and thus hopefully stop them being broken off. How easy is it to get behind the door pillar? I'...

Re: New Parcel Shelf

Many thanks all.
The top of mine is carpeted the same as the floor and the underside is that almost galvanised looking grey. Car has always been Black.
I suppose an 'Old Gold' finish would be appropriate when I get around to such little jobs.

Re: New Parcel Shelf

Hi I realise this topic is a few months old, but my Moggie is a '55 Splitie 2 Door (so in the latter part of Series II production) and I have no idea what all this talk of a fibreboard parcel shelf is about. My parcel shelf is steel and only seems to be about 1/2 the depth of the ones you guys are s...

Fuel Tank Debris?

Hi Thought I'd share this one. I've only recently brought my Moggie and the guy we got it from said he's only broken down in it once when he had a Carb blockage with small partials in the fuel reservoir. I've just changed the flexible connection between the filler and the tank as it appeared to be t...

Re: Rear Lights

Thanks for those replies guys. I'll leave the 'plinths' as they are then :) They are indeed the later '54-'56 light bases and it's only in the side view that the difference is noticeable. 20170830_105634 (2).jpg I guess it must be fairly common to see them like this if people have stayed with the pl...

Rear Lights

Hi All So, we've just brought a 55 Splitie (our first Moggie), which is basically 'sound' but had a number of bodged aspects. For example, the wiper motor is supported by a block of high density seat foam instead of being fitted with the correct bracket!!! :o 20170829_090849A.jpg However, the reason...

Re: Proposed Vandalism by Highways England

The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) is calling on Highways England to reject a plan to widen the western side of the A3, which would take 10,000 sq. metres of land from RHS Garden Wisley. This plan would destroy hundreds of beautiful trees – some of which are of significant scientific importance ...

Re: Indicators Up Grade

Palacebear I'm by no means an expert in such matters, and legislation often seems designed to fail any 'Plain English Awards', but single-vehicle type-approval is a bit of a minefield. Having just looked them up, it seems that under Exemptions, it includes cars over 10 years old. So I think your exa...

Re: Indicators Up Grade

Hi - first post as I've just this week brought my 1st Moggie, a '55 Splitie. I've got some issues with the way the lights have been 'upgraded' over the years, but I'll be posting that separately. I need to take a photo or two first. My thought on this topic though are not to forget that many America...
