3rd gear rattle
A  nyone any clues as to why our 65 1098 minor's gearbox has suddenly developed a really nasty rattle in third gear , as soon as you change into third it rattles badly and diminishes gradually as the engine speed increases and is all ok in all the other gears . Sounds a bit ominous doesn't it ?...

Re transfer
Just soak in a bowl of warm water , clean/de-grease the window from the inside wait until the transfer slides about on it's backing paper and slide on to the windscreen just like an airfix transfer!

Re bodywork repairs
Can't comment on the company you suggest but i have just purchased a great little 2 door saloon from Minor Services situated just outside Ely , Cambridgeshire and his work is second to none. The floor , sills, boxing plates and whole underside has been restored to a very high standard and all guarant...

Re headlining replacement
Best tip would be to get someone else to do it , that's my favourite bet! Failing that get some good contact adhesive of the brushable type-the spray glue type will get everywhere except where you want it. Position the metal rods in their right sleeves and position on the car then pencil mark where ...

:D Thanks bmcosse hopefully if it was strong enough for the original belt it will be a bit further along the waistrail so in theory it should be up to the job and you are right i will need a substantial bracket behind the rail just in case , never a dull moment is there? Under normal circumstances i...

re soundproofing
:D Definately as many self adhesive sound proofing pads as you can afford, i think Frosts auto restoration do them or bound to be on e-bay somewhere.Especially on the insides on doors to make them shut with a thud and on the floorpan and bulkhead. If you use the felt stuff make sure you have a water ...

Front Inertia s/belts in 2 door what is the correct position
Im sure this is going over old ground again but i have just purchased a new pair of front seat belts (inertia type) and have been doing a bit of head scratching as i can't see how to fit them. There are two problems the first being that there is no B pillar post to speak of on a two door and the iner...

Reclining seats
Excellent news thanks for that Simmitc i will give them a try , fortunately i have kept the old covers . They are definately Morris Minor recliners exactly the same as the seats described in page 16 of my owners handbook as an optional extra. I reckon anyone disputing the existence or these seats pr...

Reclining seats
Any help appreciated for locating a light blue back rest seat cover for an original reclining Morris 1000 front drivers seat . This seat has the chrome lever on the side at the base next to the hand brake, from what i can make out the base seat cover is the same as the original saloon seat but the b...

2 mm sheet steel, it only required a small overlap in the end and new gasket and plenty of gasket sealant to finish off the job. As it turned out it was the screw fitting between the oil pipe and oil filter housing that was more cause for concern ,still weeping a little bit, but after 3 trial runs u...

:D Ah at last it may have cost me a bad back leaning into that murky engine bay but the metal plate/gasket improvisation tip has worked i am pleased to say. A bit too early for a glass of wine but a nice up of tea on the cards and a big thanks again to all you Morris owners who have bothered to repl...

You have too many engines ! I will have a good look at the weekend when i can see what im doing properly , maybe someone hasn't had a go at it with an angle grinder after all ! It does look a bit rough around the edges so i thought someone had got carried away but it is tricky to see at night but if...

I tell you what after all that i reckon you are on the money there , i guess i was trying to take the easy route by saving me a bit of time but i always think the old ways are the best ways for a very good reason usually and this may be one very good example. Still can't think why anyone would need ...

Ah bless you thanks for that what a star your kind actions prompted me to get my torch out and have a look at my engines and the van engine in my garage has a round hole as you noticed but with an oval dark area around it which led me to think it was the same as the traveller ie a big oval hole in i...

Yeah from a suppliers point of view that would keep them going for years selling moggie owners new bearings every week when they start their engines every morning with all the oil drained out of their filters . Psst don't let the suppliers know they might think they are on on to a new money spinner,...

Nice thought but the old girl certainly doesn't go like it would have a bigger engine. The new unit fits perfectly on the studs it's just the fact that if you view the old unit in the pic from the front you can see the central oval hole is quite elongated and there is a matching elongated hole in th...
