Keep an eye out for an unleaded 998 Mini head - They do turn up sometimes, and shou;dn't cost a vast amount. Inlet valves are slightly smaller than the 1098 Minor head I think, but compression ratio is higher, which I suspect makes it no less powerful, and maybe a little more economical

Can't you just change the speedo drive in the box? I was under the impression there's different "colours" available for the ribbed box, each one with a different ratio.

Thats got my attention Leo what difference would that make.

As alluded to, if the diaphragm lets go petrol can leak into the sump pretty easily as the diaphragm is the only seal between pump and engine.
