Re: Noise when turning!

Having checked trunnions, wheel bearings and track rod ends, nothing appeared amiss, except the intermittent noise was still there. :o However, I managed to discharge my duties driving the local gala queen and attendants last weekend, with only a very brief uncalled for "accompaniment" fro...

Re: Noise when turning!

Tyres don't appear to be rubbing, and there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with the bearings, so I'll have a look at the swivel pins and trunnions next!

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, much appreciated.

Re: Noise when turning!

Thanks Roy (as always) for posting back. :D Given that this problem has never occurred before, and I haven't changed any tyres or wheels recently, I actually haven't checked this. Would there be some sort of differential wear evident on the tyres? I'll have a look in the morning, but I've been wonde...

Noise when turning!

"Leftie", my post production convertible is generally running well, and enjoying this rather pleasant summer. However, on very odd occasions when cornering at above 25mph (usually to the left), there is a loud harmonic humming coming out from what sounds like the middle to right hand side ...

Re: Reliable Spares for Distributor

Cheers guys. I appreciate the advice.

I saw the advert in the last edition of "Minor Matters and wondered about him.

Will sort some stuff out tonight, and post up how I get on.

Thanks again.

Re: Engine running rich and lumpy

A bit of heavy right foot (accelerator rather than break!) and a bit of slight adjustment of screws and nuts by the carburettor and hey presto ................ she's running fine. :D :D :D Thanks Roy for the suggestions, I'm guessing that there was just a little bit of something where it should not ...

Re: Engine running rich and lumpy

Firstly apologies for the delay in responding. A holiday in glorious mid-Wales followed by a couple of days in Chester, refitting my lovely resprayed bonnet and innumerable small jobs along with a visit to the air display at East Fortune nr Edinburgh today, have been the cause of my tardiness. Below...

Engine running rich and lumpy

1275cc Marina engine in my Minor has been running fine. That was until last week when Milton junior pulled the choke out a little far. (Not his fault. I should have made it clearer what to do!) Sorted that issue only for engine to start running rich and lumpy like my porridge. Mechanic friend popped...

A Minor Revelation (Pt3)

So why didn't I swap the Minor Convertible for a Landrover? Sundays are normally one of the busiest days for my family taxi undertaking. With rugby in the winter, cricket in the summer and guitar lessons all year round, “the day of rest” rarely lives up to its name. However with an odd day off, and ...

A Minor Revelation (Pt2)

Before I prattle on, a bit more about “Leftie”. Originally a 2 door saloon, she underwent professional major surgery in the 1990s to become a convertible and her 1098cc was replaced with an unmolested 1.3 Marina engine from “Grumpy’s” .(Presumably a garage located in a deep, dark forest near some mi...

A Minor Revelation

If television is to believed, and I can think of no reason why not to, all AA meetings begin with someone standing up and letting those present know how long it is since they last fell off the wagon. So, in the best traditions of a daytime drama..…. Hello, I’m Milton and it’s been 4 years since I wa...

"Joy" with a gearbox

Towards the end of a fantastic run the other weekend, my gearbox made a loud and rather unpleasant crunching noise. I stopped immediately. Following recovery to my local garage, draining the oil from the gearbox brought with it two cog teeth. So, having considered a 5 speed conversion, (I've a 1275c...

Basic questions about oil and sump bolts.

Despite being a Minor virgin and having very little mechanical know how, I let my heart rule my head last year, and bought a post-production convertible. I wish I'd done it sooner. The car's fitted with a 1.3 Marina engine with an unleaded cylinder head, and is due a service. From experience which o...
