Sorry if I'm stating the obvious but many old Smiths clocks used an electromechanical movement which required the user to 'start' it. This is usually done by pressing in and releasing the time adjusting pin.

The body plate would have read 'Nuffield Metal Products'. As you suspected this was the name of the company that fabricated the body. Before you go...

Before you waste money on trying to get the clock fixed, you should know that many old Smiths clocks need to be shunted into life manually after being connected to 12v. This is usually done by pressing and releasing the time adjustment knob. It'll be easy to determine if the clock is of this type as...
