Re: DISTRIBUTOR INDUCTIVE DISCHARGE UNIT

Dunno how that could be. Do tell us how you could tell, depending on electrical load, battery state of charge and battery condition. At night or in the day? Windscreen wipers operating or not? Heater on? It was a standard 105e, the only extra was a smiths ammeter off a Foden lorry. The only thing t...

Up to that point a simple ammeter could be used to measure engine speed.🙂

That just reminded me, in 1975, when the speedo cable broke on my Anglia I knew that I was going at 60 mph because my ammeter was reading 15 amps :D Happy days.

Re: Overheating - possible culprit?

Was the water definitely moving as the steel impellors on water pumps can corrode off. Also check the condition of the radiator cap, if the seal goes the coolant will boil as it will be at a lower pressure.

Has the head got a bypass or did it have holes in the thermostat?

Check the rocker shaft for wear.

Re: MM Split Case Rear Axle - Bearing Replacement

Take them in to a local bearing supplier which you will probably find with google. They should measure them and be able to offer replacements.
Take what you are fitting the bearing to so that they can measure any radiuses on the shaft.

Re: 1098cc and Ford T9 Pairing

As this is a reconditioned engine, before spending any money, I would be tempted to drop the engine oil, remove the sump and have a look at the big end shells and the centre mains. You could do that with the front of the car on axle stands in a couple of hours.

At the present time it scrap, if you try to straighten it the worst that can happen is it will still be scrap. But, you may save it.

I wouldn't be in a hurry to take the engine out and strip it down if theirs nothing wrong with it.

Re: Head gasket failure-3rd in 2½ years

Before doing anything else, I would check the block to ensure its flat with a decent straight edge and a 0.002" feeler gauge. If its flat, its flat.

Re: CORDS piston rings

Bores tend to wear halfway down more than at the top. Before fitting the new rings, place one of the old rings in a bore (on top of a piston to ensure it's level, then remove the piston) and using feeler gauges measure the ring gap, record the result then do the same halfway down the bore then at th...

you need to check that the return spring on the pedal has been refitted correctly, it's under the small cover plate that covers the master cylinder.

Also, measure the head thickness, it should be about 2.75 inch thick. it would be interesting to know if the head has already been skimmed.

Re: Rear hub gasket

C3 bearings have a small amount of play in the bearing race to allow for expansion when warmed up, the external dimensions are all the same.

Re: Rear hub gasket

If you look at the various links the C3 specification is for bearings exposed to heat which will close up the clearances. The Minor axle in my honest opinion will never get hot enough to close up the clearances in the C3 bearing. I would assume that BMC would consider all the roads that the average...

Re: Rear hub gasket

Phil I think that it all depends on the quality of the bearing, if you are going to purchase a cheap far eastern bearing off eBay then it may have a lot of play. The kit that you highlighted is cheaper than buying the separate components and it does have a recognised bearing which should be of good ...
