Re: UMF 172 F Minor 100 Traveller in snowberry white

It's great to hear some of the history of the car from before I first new it. Funny you should have taken it on a tour across Europe when you were younger as me and a couple of mates did similar when I was 21 and took her through France, down to Spain. She certainly is a well travelled Traveller! I ...

Re: UMF 172 F Minor 100 Traveller in snowberry white

I know exactly which garage it's sat in - my dad's :) Funnily enough - I've just regrettably put it up for sale due to child number 3 on the way. Strangely it looks a lot better now than it did in that picture when it was only 6 years old! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Morris-Minor-Traveller-1968-Fantas...

Re: Name that car?

Thanks for the answers - I'm not so hot on identifying stuff that old :D

I don't suppose there's any database of registered cars in Oz, like the DVLA query site over here? It's a long shot that this car is still in existence but it'd be nice to know if it was.

Name that car?

A friend of mine has just come across the photo below. It is of his Dad, aged about 8-10 (the one on the left) standing next to a car in Australia round about 1945-1950.

Can anyone say what exactly the car is?[frame]Image[/frame]

Re: Discs

Pulled my master cylinder out this weekend, removed the top hat seal and put everything back together, bled brakes etc.

First run of about 13 miles and so far so good - no more sticking brakes - yay, go MMOC Forum - thanks guys!

Re: Ford 5 Speed 'box speedo cable fitting.

Based on these figures and a similar setup, I still have it in mind to fit a different speedo unit with an electronic sender. Probably not that more expensive and apparently easy to calibrate yourself. Wouldn't maintain that original look but then not much on my old girl does!

Re: Discs

I have a similar problem with sticky front disc brakes which I have yet to cure and as such have lived with for some time. My brakes are the Marina type ones and both calipers have been replaced which caused me to scratch my head when still faced with sticky brakes. Having read this post I have sinc...

Re: How do you use yours?

My Traveller is used every day to work and back. I've modified it to my liking but that's just me, so long as you keep on top of the routine maintenance it's fairly hassle free motoring - would thoroughly recommend it :)

My wife named my traveller Ursula - no idea why but I like the play on words - Ursula Minor >> Ursa Minor >> Little Bear

Re: Severe Oil Leak, Help Please asap

Could this be due to any of the breather system being blocked or incorrectly routed? I know I had significant oil leaks on mine before I sorted this out. Once sorted the biggest problem I had was the bottom of the sump going rusty due to lack of oil flying around under there.

Re: Electronic Speedometer

@charlie_morris_minor - perfect, just what I was looking for and yes I have the Ford type 9 gearbox so should be fairly straight forward. I may give the guy a call though as I really would like a speedo head that is the same size as the original to fit in the hole in the dash 80mm is just over 3 inc...

Re: Front suspension noises

Squeaking at the front is eyebolt bushes, change then before the eye bolt is worn oval by the pin! and both have to be replaced as well as the bushes. I had a similar issue on the nearside front of mine and replacing pretty much all of the bushes I could see with poly ones was my solution although ...

Electronic Speedometer

I'm toying with the idea of fitting an electronic speedometer in place of the standard one in the centre of the dash on my 68 Traveller - Any ideas as to what products are suitable for this application? I am then thinking also that I would have a separate 2" gauge for the fuel gauge and also se...

Re: Which Speedo Required?

A while ago somebody (Judge?) told me the cable supplied with his 5 speed conversion kit had an inner that was slightly too long. This puts an excessive force on the bearings inside the head and will quickly wear them out. Could that be a problem in your case? Interesting - not sure how i can check...

Re: Which Speedo Required?

Hmm - after all this time, I have finally just replaced my speedo. To be more accurate, I have replaced the speedo drive gear, the cable and the head (new one is 1376 tpm). By my calculations, the correct tpm for my setup(ford 5 speed box etc) should be 1356 so i'm only something like 1.4% out which...

Re: Throttle return spring

As an aside, my return spring broke going dow a rather steep hill just outside of Paris on a bit of a road-trip. Having put the car in neutral, turned off the ignition and coasted to a stop at the bottom of the hill I got out and diagnosed the problem. This was then fixed with a random piece of bind...

Re: Which Speedo Required?

Thanks,

That is a huge help - if you could take a piccie of the speedo face with all the numbers on and post here or just post the numbers themselves I can search one out for myself. Out of interest why did the original die? Was it like mine that it couldn't seem to handle the uprated setup?

Which Speedo Required?

I have a '68 Traveller with the original 4:22 diff and wheels but a 5 speed ford gearbox conversion. - Any idea which is the correct/closest speedo out there to get? My current one has given up after much needle bouncing around! I have checked the run of the cable and that is fine so I'm guessing it...
