Re: Took the trafficator out today

Thanks! The electromagnets get their currents from the dioded wires that are between the indicator switch and the flasher unit, so they get a steady current, not a flashing one.

Re: Oil Control Piston Ring

Thanks for your reply and diagram. That's exactly the setup I have. I'm sure that the rings are too big. Even with the wavy ring removed, the scrapers protrude way too far. I'm getting in tough with my supplier. Cheers!

Oil Control Piston Ring

G'day Guys, I'm trying to re-ring my spare engine, and have hit a problem at the very first ring. The oil control ring (4 of 4) is made up of 4 parts: a thin wavy expander, a castelated spacer and two thin shim rings. I can't for the life of me get this lot to fit together. It's the same sort of set...

Re: Help!!! Am I a tooth out?

Thanks to all who helped out with this one. I finally (sort of) worked it out. The mixture was way too lean. A bit of background: The engine that I swapped in is intended to be a stopgap, while my original one gets rebuilt. I checked out my two spare engines and chose the one which had no appreciabl...

Re: Help!!! Am I a tooth out?

I'm thinking that the cam timing is ok. Using the test, I found gaps at 43thou inlet, 48 exhaust, so I guess we can call that close enough. Here's the pic with the nut removed and the woodruff keys visible. http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b322/perrys/96703978-0ac8-4df9-80b0-26cadd2a9a9b.jpg This c...

Re: Help!!! Am I a tooth out?

Thanks, I'll run the test again in the morning, but from memory, the exhaust was more than 50thou (guessing about 80) the inlet was much less, 25-30ish.

Re: Help!!! Am I a tooth out?

It's the same 1098 head (shaved 50thou) that was fitted to the previous engine, which also had a 1098 cam. It's backfiring on the over-run and has no power. The head was swapped with the engine swap, with a new gasket set.

Would the valve gaps on #1 suggest that the cam timing is out?

Help!!! Am I a tooth out?

I've just fitted a 948cc engine, that I believe is in good condition. As part of the process I fitted a 1098 camshaft. I cannot get the engine to run with any force. I'm using the same ignition and carb setup as the engine that I removed, and although I messed with both the mixture and timing, I thi...

Searchlight, keep it or not?

G\'day All, Inspired by RobThomas' post about the ultimate MM pose, I fitted this last weekend. What do folks think? ( I've asked the same question on the Down Under Forum, but I'm still undecided, so I'm going global.) Naff and a pose? Or the coolest thing evar? http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...

I have the same 948 with stock gearbox, and the 4:22 diff and 14" wheels. I've also checked my (modified) speedo against my GPS and it's accurate to within 4mph. I tend to change up at a max 4500rpm. 1st - 0-15 2nd - 15-35ish 3rd - 35 - 50 4th - 50+ There's also a little application on the web ...

I've played with this on mine as well - I fitted a later model speedo innards, in the case of a gold faced one. There were two types of covers/shrouds stopping instrument light leakage via the warning light lenses: One was a sort of cup arrangement with a concertina step in it which surrounded the b...
