Re: Riley front brake springs - fouling hub

Thanks again Phil. That's two beers I owe you now. I am not a million miles away, so perhaps RV when 'Betty' is back on the road.

Re: Riley front brake springs - fouling hub

Thank you Phil. I was, of course, trying to attach then like Morris, MG etc, ie both ends through the shoes. The 'Riley' springs I was sent were the yellow one here. The other is an MGA spring. Where does the 'loose' end go? Through the small hole in the backplate? It looks like it in your picture. ...

Riley front brake springs - fouling hub

Another thread on brake springs reminded me of more unfinished business. I have an immaculate set of Riley front brakes, with good drums and backplates, new cylinders adjusters etc, and with MGA flexible brake pipes to match up with the Minor setup. Unfortunately, the return springs - bought with ot...

Re: Fitting a brake reservoir / header tank

Thanks for that Phil. I should have known better than to trust a modern device (or the modern part of it). A 10mm drill shows up as 8. IOU the beer, if we meet! Now I just need to find a local helper who can work magic with the loose end, as I am clearly not up to that.

Re: Fitting a brake reservoir / header tank

Sorry Phil, is that for me? if so, see below: you owe me a beer, if we should ever meet! I have been a bit more careful with the measuring stick this time...but it slipped from .125 to .126 as I picked up the camera. Shane

Re: Fitting a brake reservoir / header tank

Thank you both. I have a photo but can't remember how to upload so it is an attachment. IMG_20200719_161345282.jpg Let's hope it works. Part of the pipe is not showing. I can assure you that the OD of the pipe is .129 (1/8" nominal). The fittings are all screw type. I have dropped a note to JLH...

Re: Fitting a brake reservoir / header tank

Arjay, You can send an email to Jonathan at JLH, he's very helpful and never seems to take long to reply. He sent me a sketch and an email explaining the pipework modifications when I fitted the brake fluid reservoir. info@jlhmorrisminors.co.uk I bought a secondhand Bluepoint flaring kit on eBay an...

Re: Fitting a brake reservoir / header tank

I have since made Morris minor kits with 6mm copper pipe which I flare. The flare for the reservoir JIC fittings must be 37° and not 45°. The company you bought it from probably does not have a proper flaring tool. Regards Declan Thanks, Declan. The other 3 joints are complete, like yours but the 4...

Re: Fitting a brake reservoir / header tank

<t>I come to this thread rather late. Like the owner (neil morey on 25 May 2017, I have the (JLH, I think) kit with the unflared pipe connection. I appreciate that, as it is not in the pressured circuit, there is little pressure in this pipe but it surely does need flaring. The copper pipe has an ou...

Just like on a beach: you walk 1/2 a mile to be well clear of others and the next people to arrive walk all the way down and set up right next to you. Do they think you know the best spot?

I did it after, with no problems. It didn't occur to me that there was any other option. The bit in the front was more fiddly.

Re: Carburettor dashpot oil

The tuner who worked on my MGA recently swears by Carlube Jack Oil. Under £5 for 500 ml, SAE 10 but car is going like a dingbat (as much as such a car ever can). However, he did shave the new needles to ensure even performance right across the rev range, which most of us might not try.

That does look good. I feared that it might look a bit like a hearse but it is not long enough for that. Just elegantly simple. Good thinking.

The one-piece window looks smart, is certainly more secure, and easy to clean. How does it look from the outside? I need the opening windows to keep the dogs cool.

Re: Vehicle of historic interest mot

I must just be lucky. Having seen all this correspondence, I just logged on to DVLA and my Traveller, which has been SORN for about 5 years. It automatically gave me 12 months tax at GBP 0.00 from 1 May 2018. All I have to do now is get her going again. and yes, I will MOT when ready, to check that ...
