Re: Gearbox rear oil-seal removal
You need to prise it off. Do you have the new seal in stock? The bronze sleeve may be worn - a new seal may not make much difference - but worth a try. I can get seals locally. "the bronze sleeve" is that the end of the prop shaft that slides onto the splines? If this part is worn I could...

Gearbox rear oil-seal removal
I would like to replace the rear oil seal on the gearbox connecting to prop shaft.
The seal is held in place by a metal cap tightly pressed on to the aluminium case.
I notice two crimped spots around the edge of this cap.
What is the best way to remove this cap?

Re: Fuel line blockage
CONCLUSION Removed fuel line at connection to tank. Pushed thin wire down hole into tank - wire crumpled. Pushed stiffer wire down but it did not like going round 2 bends!! "Zabond" from the morrisdownunder forum suggested using an old speedo cable powered by a rechargeable drill. I didnt...

Fuel line blockage
My Minor 1970 LCV has not been run for about three years. All the petrol which was in the tank has evaporated long time ago, leaving tank bone dry. What else would one expect in Cyprus! The fuel pump works properly and tries to suck (new) fuel through but can't. I disconnected fuel line from pump an...

Re: Re-using head gasket?
I have always siliconed gasket to rockercover and then siliconed that lot to cylinder head (where it has often leaked oil)
So is it correct to only stick gasket to rockercover and then place on cylinder head "dry"?

Re: No oil in tappit area
The final conclusion! With Cylinder head removed I poured petrol into oil hole. Left overnight, and tried to blow compressed air through the oil channel. Still blocked. Turned head over and poured petrol from other end of the Z shaped channel. Left overnight to soak. Next day blew compressed air al...

Re: Re-using head gasket?
Thanks bmcecosse,
What about the cylinder head cover, I have a new one of those but do you have any advice on sealing?
I have used silicone in the past but it always seems to either stick too well or not stick at all in certain areas eg at the top-back.
Is there anything better?
JR

Re-using head gasket?
Further to recent topic on "No oil in tappit area" where I had just fitted cylinder head, I also ordered from UK a new cyl head gasket, which are unavailable here in Cyprus. The engine was only run briefly when on getting fully warmed up it was found that no oil was reaching the head, a sq...

Re: No oil in tappit area
Have just removed the head, tried to blow compressed air through oil channel in head but there is a blockage. The channel is in the form of a Z shape. I can poke a wire in at each end of the Z, but the blockage is in the middle which was originally drilled in the manufacturing process and then end-p...

Re: No oil in tappit area
Thanks for all the advice everyone. Will get back to the engine today, and lift off the head to see if its oil line is blocked. Top front pedestal was correctly aligned with oil hole which had no oil exuding! So will work downwards. Great forum! Especially appreciated out here in Cyprus where there'...

Re: No oil in tappit area
Head was off so I replaced with other, recently used and working. Before replacing head I manually turned over pistons to make sure they were free, and noticed oil pumping out correctly from small oil hole at front corner of engine block. Head gasket was replaced with new one and oil hole in gasket ...

No oil in tappit area
Hi from Cyprus Just fitted an engine and gearbox into my '56 van from a traveller which had not started in 20 years. Engine runs fine as if it had only done 40 - 50k miles, no smoke at all and great compression. gearbox is nice and tight. seems engine was hardly used...but once warmed up a squeak co...
