NMG 743 (now XWV 654A)
I've just found out that my Minor lost its original registration in 1991 and is now on a Mini, and was subsequently given an A-reg replacement. I once asked on here whether anyone had previously owned my car before I knew of its ID change, so now I'm asking if anyone here once owned my car (or knew ...

Re: What IS this stuff?!
Yes, sounds right. I took the head off yesterday and it's clear there is a problem.

Re: What IS this stuff?!
Oil residue from valve seals or worn valve guide? What does the spark plug from that cylinder show. I can't check the spark plug at the moment but I did do a compression test before I took the engine out, and I think one of those two cylinders showed a good 25psi below the other three, so you could...

What IS this stuff?!
I'm currently starting a light rebuild of my 948cc engine, and when I removed the manifold I noticed that the inlet port has a thick deposit of black, brittle substance which can be broken off in small black shiny fragments. The corresponding cylinder head port has the same. However, the other inlet...

Re: No time wasters.
What is worse is ads that say 'first to see will buy'. It sounds like you will be entering into a verbal contract to buy the car whether you like it or not! I know it's not meant that way, obviously, but I do find it offputting. The other thing I find annoying is people who blank out the numberplate...

I love a rusty jigsaw puzzle, so I'll probably start on this section next.

Time for a small update; some progress on the inner wing. Tomorrow I'll do a bit more...hopefully!

Re: Ex-MMOC member thinking of rejoining MMOC
In the end I rejoined just before xmas. And yes the magazine has improved! Still needs more in-depth technical help and information though.

Nice work! I'm currently working on the N/S inner wing on my Minor as well, but have only just started on it.

It's not a scam as it was announced as being planned last year on the BBC News website. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c0kglle0p3vo

Facebook alternatives?
I tried to go on to Facebook today and was met with a full-screen message saying I could either pay £2.99 per month for ad-free content or I could accept ads based on my personal details and use FB for "free". I think this is where I get off FB once and for all; I'm immune to ALL advertisi...

Re: XRT 487G - 'Maggie'
Not quite... What you'll get, and it may take some time, is copies of whatever records DVLA have, with names and address redacted, apart from the town or possibly just County, depending on the whim of who's doing the redacting. The copies I was sent are principally just the Change of Details page t...

Nice project and well worth saving, especially as it doesn't look too bad in terms of condition! Looking forward to seeing your progress on this.

Re: XRT 487G - 'Maggie'
I would love to find out more about its past life. The gent we purchased it from told us it was owned by his father, and the V5 shows 3 previous owners. For just £5 you can request a list of all previous owners and where they lived using a DVLA V888 form. You also get photocopies of all the previou...

Re: 1954 morris minor 2 door
What a nice project! It looks like it doesn't too much in the way of welding - the ones I'm working on at the moment are worse. Does the engine turn or is it siezed?

Re: XWV 654A 1963 4-door saloon
Certainly looks daunting, but still well within reasonable repair. When I first started out some 40 years ago puttering on old cars, I had to pass up several that I really wanted, but didn't have the abilities required at the time, like welding and (proper) painting. Spurred on by articles in resto...
