Video tutorials/suspension rebuild

I am currently looking to find out why the near side front suspension started squeaking and am about to attempt to replace the bushes on the top trunnion. The real issue I have encountered since owning my first Morris minor and the fact that I do not have any kind of mechanical background is underst...

Re: Starter Motor Screech

After the engine has started must mean the starter is still engaged and being over-speeded. The fan/generator belt is a likely suspect, but it is at the other end of the engine! More likely if an alternator is fitted, because of the different charging characteristics between an alternator and a dyn...

Re: Starter Motor Screech

The screech occurs a few moments after the engine has started James In that case, are you sure it's the starter? It could be if it's not disengaging properly, but it could also be other components. Have you checked that the fan belt is tight? It could be that slipping - that is a common cause of sc...

Clean off with brake cleaner and don't put any oil or grease on it

Graphite dust is what you want - the dust from a soft pencil?[/q

The motor is an M35G. Is this the type you are referring to?

This is the type of special tool that you need to be able to remove the Bendix:- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Classic-Starter-Bendix-Spring-Compressor-/112280322022?hash=item1a246dbfe6:g:wL8AAOSwLEtYh8Jc The above is similar to the Sykes Pickavant Bendix spring compression tool I use. Under no circums...

Starter Motor Screech

Hello everyone, I have recently had a loud but brief 'screech' from the starter motor when starting up. It doesn't last long and is from cold as when I start up later from warm there doesn't seem to be a problem. If this is a simple case of overhauling the starter motor is there a specialist tool ne...

Re: Premium unleaded versus Additive

Unless you've raised your compression ratio a lot via modifications I don't think there is any advantage to premium (higher octane) fuel, other than a possible lack of modern additives (ethanol I think) that can corrode rubber fuel pipes that go from the fuel pump to the carb. Go with the cheap fue...

Thats correct and I think the price difference would be negligible on second thoughts

Re: Checking the Diff oil

James, If you are anywhere near Oxford - pop in and put it over the pit. Takes a few easy minutes to check the rear axle oil level - PROVIDING: • Someone has not put a later diff assembly (with no level/filler plug), into an earlier axle casing (with no level/filler plug) - the result is no level/f...

Re: Checking the Diff oil

You're possibly overthinking it? I've never bothered about having the car completely level when checking the axle oil - it isn't as critical as the engine oil level is it. I just raise the rear as much as I need to and top it up if required. I change it every few years. I tend to fill to slightly b...

I manage to get under the car by having my wife roll it back over me. I'm not exactly supermodel thin but I can get beneath the petrol tank alright.

Re: Checking the Diff oil

Use ramps? Dig a pit? Raise one end on axle stands and lower onto some wide timber supports, then raise the other end? Get someone slimmer than yourself to top off the fluid and replace the plug? Do it on a slope and just raise the rear wheels until the car is level? (Do remember to chock the front...

Premium unleaded versus Additive

Now that we are experiencing an increase in petrol prices I wanted to ask if using an additive with standard unleaded fuel is cost effective and
equally ok as premium?

Checking the Diff oil

Can anyone please explain how I check and top up the diff oil? I'm not certain that putting Titch up on 4 stands is wise and recon You can't do this job at an angle? Regarding axle stands, am I able to put her up on 4 and if so is it wise? I tried recently by starting at the rear but when I started ...

Noel

Thankyou for your reply

I actually managed to complete the drivers side after a fair amount of frustration including almost tearing the rubber
But I'm pleased with the end result. I admit that some of the time was wasted before realizing I was trying to put the near side rubber in. Doh

Step by step guide for quarter light rubber replacement

Recently I managed to fit the new weather strips to my 4 door and Thanks for everybody's help on that. My current project is the quarter light rubbers and I am still confused by all the postings I have read. It doesn't help that I've had a stroke and have to be even more creative when tackling the m...
