Re: Any advice on convertibles getting wet appreciated.
I have a 14" desk fan mounted in the ceiling of the garage which is on a timer, it comes on every couple of hours. This creates air movement which helps dry the car if I put it away wet. I find its a good thing to keep the air moving as during the winter the side garage door never gets opened ...

Re: Any tips for waterproofing our Hood with Fabsil Gold ?
Hi, I actually work for the company that makes Fabsil, so hopefully I can give you some advice! 1) You shouldn't need to go to too much trouble to avoid dripping Fabsil on the paintwork etc - it will wash off! 2) Painting with a brush is a fine way to apply the product - definitely pay more attenti...

Any tips for waterproofing our Hood with Fabsil Gold ?
He we have bought a tin of Fabsil Gold after the last owner said that's what he had used previously on the hood.. Its a Maroon "Mohair? " type hood material. We have bought the brush on type so as to avoid overspray etc.. Just wondering if anyone has any tips on using the product or what t...

Re: Advice selling a Minor
Also make sure your auction ends during an evening or weekend so people who are interested can take part in any last minute bidding. We have bought bargains over the years where a listing had several watchers but due to unsociable end times there was no final bidding war, which always pushes the sal...

Re: Any advice on convertibles getting wet appreciated.
Many thanks for the advice. I think the fan sounds a great idea. I'm sure we'll be a lot less precious about it now it has been wet for the first time. We are new Minor owners and it feels a big responsibility owning a 60+ year old car. We are also old enough to have bought old bangers in the 1980s ...

Any advice on convertibles getting wet appreciated.
Hi All, We had our car (1953 Splitscreen Tourer) out in the rain last night for the first time since we bought it, we went to a local club meeting in Mansfield with it, (nice bunch)... it was sunny on the way there but then totally tipped it down for an hour or two.. Happily (fearing the worst) afte...

Hi Alice
It was great to meet you at Autokarna. I love the East Midlands website. We're going to try and get to one of your meetings, possibly next week if that is OK?

Re: Advice on buying a Convertible please.
This is what we sold to make room for the Minor. Full power 1200cc Yamaha VMax... 140-150 BHP at the back wheel it did a standing quarter in 10.9 seconds out of the box and 0 to 62mph in three seconds... however we are now both hitting 50 and I am "settling down" so wanted something more u...

Re: to buy or not to buy, what would you do?
Hi the people on this site are very good at spotting things, what I would do if it were me is go and look ,get a feel for it and take some pics of important areas then post them on here and see what people think... See what its like or take someone with you who knows Minors... I have a (slight) adva...

Re: Advice on buying a Convertible please.
Nice looking car, and as has already been posted you will find 'purists' and non-purists in every car club or at local events so I wouldn't take it personally if some don't like it. I think the concern around the 'numbers' is in relation to checking the identity rather than the originality. There a...

Re: Advice on buying a Convertible please.
Have requested ID numbers (to assure you it's a genuine Tourer) several times, but these have not been forthcoming. We only picked it up last Sunday... Please read my PM again as you mis-read it. I did not say previous owner had said you confirmed it was a tourer.... I said he had sent you all the ...

Re: Advice on buying a Convertible please.
" Bit aggrieved someone should say such a thing " I just said in my PM that the previous owner had sent you the numbers that he had except for the floor one as that had been replaced... That's all I said but I want to know still... We have the 1953 log book with the same reg and we have a...

Hi S&S Have requested ID numbers (to assure you it's a genuine Tourer) several times, but these have not been forthcoming. I also advised you to check - before purchasing a vehicle - the stamped in chassis number, this VITAL check ignored too. Without this information, cannot help you any furth...

Re: Advice on buying a Convertible please.
Thanks for reply yes, ours seems to cruise nicely at 50mph, we don't want to go faster as it starts shaking and rattling... 50mph seems to be the max but downhill, crosswinds permitting it can do 55 ! Even the original side valve would cruise at 50 , so i would expect much more speed from the cross...

Re: Advice on buying a Convertible please.
Very nice. I like the ford crossflow engine, simple and easy to work on and very reliable. I had one in an escort mk1 estate and when on the motorway ran it at 80 mph and it never complained. It's top speed was 92. I rebuilt it once a few years after I got it and ran it for 19 years before scrappin...
