Re: SPQR Click Adjuster.
Is it like so many - and only works on perfect rocker arms? I would suggest that most on the forum, who set their valve clearances on worn engines, get it wrong.

Re: Bottom end overhaul
Could be the switch - but could also be oil pump, crankshaft bearings or even the PRV leaking/stuck open. Not much else unless an internal gallery plug has failed What did the shells look like when taken out? Was the engine making naughty noises (when revving it or heavily loaded)? Is there oil at t...

Re: Cheappie fuel pumps.
Of course it could work - but it would require appropriate pressure regulation! The pressure indicated is, as pointed out, too high. The capacity, shown on the sales site, indicate a volumetric supply far in excess of fuel usage in a Minor - 70 litres/hour is more than 10 times the typical maximum f...

Re: Exhaust valve stem oil seals.
Am I correct in thinking that the underside face of the rocker pillar and the cylinder head pillar face are an effective seal for the oilway to the rockers when fully tightened ? Sufficient as long as the surfaces are not seriously damaged (highly unlikely). There is no fully effective seal, but it...

Re: Battery selection
IMO, extra fuses (of appropriate value according to the wiring rating) is a better and safer route during normal running. An isolator, at the battery terminal, really should only be there to avoid any small loads which would slowly discharge the battery while the vehicle is not in regular use.

Re: Exhaust valve stem oil seals.
Agree with Phil. In the mid 1970s I had an exhaust valve that hung open, when hot, on a head that had been seriously modded. I can’t remember whether the head was removed and reamed or whether removing the stem seal fixed it. Valves with over-sized stems were fitted, in those days, as guides were no...

Re: Morris won't start - SW London
I wasn’t aware that Halfrauds changed batteries free of charge - unless carried out on, or very close to, their premises. It might be difficult getting the car anywhere with the current battery fitted!

Re: Morris won't start - SW London
It's not been used about 9 months. Prior to that I used it occassionally, and often had to charge the battery. That indicates the battery was failing prior to its 9 month of inactivity. I strongly expect the battery is dead. The battery standard designator is the 075. The code in the top left corne...

Re: Slow throbbing at higher revs
I count three items. Alternator, drive belt and/or water pump.
15k miles is irrelevant if the belt tension had been too tight, or it was reconditioned with cheap bearings.

Questions:
Is the engine running, or back-firing and won’t start?
You have the correct direction for the dizzy leads around the cap?

Re: Slow throbbing at higher revs
" I'm thinking it's probably the alternator (converted 30 years ago) or water pump..." Remove the fan belt temporarily and run the engine. If it is either of the two suspects you mention then the noise should disappear as the belt will not be driving them. Don't run for too long without t...

Re: Ignition light curious behaviour
A simple initial error and a simple fix (there not really being much of a’fault’). Maybe the OP should read through the saga of two recent threads by Wes, in the mechanical section. Understanding the basics of these simple engines can be challenging for some new users. It is good that the issue has ...

It’s left me wondering why the warning light was illuminated while the ignition switch was off. Sorry, but I still think the rectifier is the culprit!

Re: Was Oil Pressure Light now Ignition light?
If you have a good battery and it was fully charged, disconnecting the alternator should not affect the battery too much - as long as the car is a) not driven in the dark and b) only started on a very few occasions for a 30 mile round trip. Recharge the battery at the earliest opportunity. Starting ...

Re: Engine running rough
I don't suppose you might have put the HT leads back on in the wrong order? I don't wish to offend by suggesting something so basic but it is easily done. You really think it will run on two cylinders ‘normally’ when warmed up? I doubt if it would start easily on two cylinders. Another thing you mi...

Re: what is the best oil for running in a engine rebuild
I don’t go along with all these oil and filter changes in quick succession. Oil circulation to the engine bearings is through the filter. A high quality filter will remove virtually any particles which may damage the bearings. The rest of the oil will be directed through the PRV. A magnet fitted to ...
