Re: Cruising Speeds 1098cc Motorways etc
I've done a lot of weddings in my Convertible, many requiring a dual carriageway/motorway trip to get to the location. My experience is the same as yours in that the car is happiest at no more than an indicated 60MPH. I let the car creep up to 65 down steeper hills (the M2 usually) and settle back t...

Whereabouts is the car? If it's local to Margate then I might be able to have a look for you.
I agree that condition and restoration quality is far more important that "provenance" and "History" on a Morris Minor, cheers John

Check the rain isn't getting in through the 1/4 light rubbers and 1/4 light to door top seal. Water may be collecting under the carpet and running down to the rear floor pans.
Check also the side window seals which can drip in heavy rain.

Re: Repair panels recommended suppliers
ESM bought all the old Hadrian tooling when they went out of business and did a good job of improving the panels from there. ESM manufacture most of the panels they sell. The RP135 L and R for example now come with original looking drain holes and fit to both the floor pan and sill edge panel a lot ...

Re: Cellulose shrinkage problem
You can use a different filler / primer to cellulose. No need to use the nasty 2K, ask at your local paint suppliers. 2K should only be used in an extracted booth and with an air fed mask with a clean air supply. I've recently used Lechler 1k filler primer over etch on a traveller roof and on the re...

Wheeler Dealers is totally fake (as are all so-called ""reality"" shows). Even the person you see Brewer buying the car from is an extra as is the person he "sells" it to. The cars are quietly disposed of on Ebay or other outlets as projects still needed masses of work ...

Re: flex in floor
You are correct Rod that repairs should be continuously welded, and this is where there was originally a continuous piece of metal. Where we see the crack at the right hand side in the picture above, in a rust free car this would be a continuous sheet of metal. Therefore the repair is an MOT failure...

:-? This is what i found when removed the black crap off. I don't think its too structural just a bit of patch welding then rust treat and paint over. What do others think? Do I replace the front N/S chassis or leave for another day when really 'gone'.-snip-[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?sr...

Re: flex in floor
I haven't read the whole thread, but would just like to add that excessive flexing in the Minor floor can be due to hairline cracks.
Clean up the area carefully with wire brush on grinder and inspect for cracks. If you find any, cut out and butt weld in a new section.

Just consider that the FBHVC only exists to try and prevent EU legislation from driving our classic cars from the road!
The EU would like to scrap all classics and make us drive Euroboxes.

This could just be a light skim as required when a lower rear quarter panel is fitted, as said above remove the rear quarter inner trim panel and check for a seam indicating a repair panel has been fitted.

Re: Brake cylinder fur
I would be more worried about corrosion on the INSIDE of the wheel cylinder! Removal of the outer piston and application of red rubber grease will give longer life to the cylinders (and red rubber grease does not attack rubber like other greases and oils do).

Re: Ectoplasm in fuel!
Sorry - but you are wrong - it's very standard procedure to add Meths to remove loose water from the fuel. There are limits of course - and it's not suggested as an every day procedure - just a 'one off' treatment. And it is well known that condensation on the roof the tank (due to breathing in moi...

Re: Contaminated fuel
The biggest problem is that ALL standard unleaded these days is contaminated fuel. Because they add ethanol to it and that ethanol contains water and corrosive acids.
Best to stick to Superunleaded as for the moment that does not have any ethanol added to it.

I couldn't agree more Manyminors!
And ditto with engine power, the 1098 or 948 is perfectly acceptable for everyday motoring, provided, the engine is not knackered and the mixture and ignition are set up correctly.

Re: Seat foam replacement
Yes, I installed the seat diahragm and foam from ESM - worked very well. I really think that a lot of people needlessly change their seats to either seats from a scrap car or an expensive purpose made seat when all your Moggy seats need is new foam, padding and webbing/ diaphragm to be comfortable a...

Re: Ectoplasm in fuel!
The possible problem with an inline filter before the pump is that in hot weather it may 'strangle' the flow of fuel to a possibly weak pump -causing a fit of 'the vapours'. However - it's hardly warm weather at the moment -so as above , flush out and by all means try a filter. Water in the fuel ca...

Re: Genuine convertible or not?
The chassis legs, front and rear, floor pans, spring hangers, cross members, inner wings, boot surround bulkheads and even sills ( apart from one strengthened piece) is identical between a 2 door saloon and convertible , that is what I meant by " base" that the factory made convertibles from.

Re: Genuine convertible or not?
Very good advice! As Jaekl quite rightly states, a factory convertible is just a factory converted convertible from a 2-door saloon base. This idea has been put forward in a couple of posts recently for some odd reason. The factory DID NOT convert saloons into convertibles. The convertible was fact...
