7" brakes and some 8"

Following my earlier post in the mechanical forum, I have had a sort out. I have 7" back plates, shoes and drums that were taken off cars either due to upgrade or scrapping probably 20 years ago. They were put under a bench "in case anyone might want them". Now is the time to sort out...

Re: 7" brakes worth saving?

Thanks for the replies. If it ever stops raining I will sort them out, take photos and post on here.

In the meantime, if anyone wants some, get in touch. They are under a bench which I am moving and dont want to hang onto them for another 15 years!

7" brakes worth saving?

Over the years I have squirrelled away a few 7" brake back plates and drums from cars that were either being scrapped or uprated to 8"

Is "originality" becoming an issue or is the 8" upgrade preferred?

Do I put them in the car the next time I go to the tip?!

Re: Traveller woodwork

Have exchanged mails with the guy and apparently they only have a base in Devon, the workshop is in London area. Sounds to me like a guy that has access to a company that makes ash frames.

Traveller woodwork

Nothing to do with me and I have had no experience of their product, but have just seen a new set of Traveller wood on Ebay for about £800. Seller is genius-repair and they seem to supply ash frames for various vehicles. They appear to be in South Brent, Devon which is on the A30 between Exeter and ...

Re: 4 door, smoke grey, 1962? Stolen 5 years ago?

Thanks everyone for your input. Having smelt a rat I had to go ahead and contact the Police and DVLA. I know that if I had had a classic car stolen I would like to think that someone somewhere would do the same. No I dont know the original reg otherwise that would have been easy to check. There is a...

4 door, smoke grey, 1962? Stolen 5 years ago?

Strange story this. About 5 years ago I bought an F reg 4dr smoke grey from the Weston super Mare area. (That's Somerset) Car was taxed but the Mot had run out months before. Seemed a good candidate for a new test with maybe a few bits to do but no major corrosion. Not the tidiest, but a cheap run a...

Had a problem recently which had me scratching my head for a while. Decided to put flashers on a split screen and seal off the trafficators. Nothing permanent, but I would feel safer with flashing lights. New wiring loom has provision for flashers, with the flasher unit under the bonnet. For the fro...

Just to give you some idea of what could happen, a friend of mine had a flatbed Bedford that could carry one car on the back. He had had vibration problems at certain speeds and decided to renew the prop shaft. Because the truck chassis had been lengthened slightly in the past, he had to have a long...

?SL numbers are replacement numbers issued by Swansea when the original reg was transferred. you will probably find that every one on a Morris is also non transferable. The SL series was used because the series was never issued as a 3 letter/number combination. Originally issued by Clackmannan in Sc...

First buy a pair of welding gauntlets. These are the heavy duty gloves that come past your wrists. Cheap as chips. Go to a welding supplier and pick up a welders head cap. These are cotton and protect your head from sparks. Get a nice snug fit. Always hold with both hands - even a small grinder will...

Washer jet position on SII

At the point where I'm putting everything back after a restoration and respray of SII that I bought stripped down. I've come to the screen wash jets and have a problem. Firstly, I understand that any washer system may well have been an aftermarket addition and not fitted from new. However, they were...

You'll probably find that flashing indicators of a certain wattage became mandatory around the early 1960s, although I bet their colour was not specified. Hence flashing the brake lights!

Just about to look at this myself. The car has had a new wiring loom with indicator wires included. I've removed the semaphores and blanked off the holes in the B post. The switch now activates the relay which is under the bonnet. The front lamps are not a problem, its the rears I cant decide about....

Thanks for the offer of help Alan, but I think I'll have to struggle like everyone else! The centre spacer rubber being wider doesn't seem to make that much difference, the only problem seems to be the outer lip being too narrow. I've spoken at length with the guys at Charlie Ware's and also ESM and...

Update: screen has just gone back in again with a liberal spray off interior dash polish - great stuff and certainly makes everything slide easily. The outer lip is probably 5mm too narrow and leaves the body lip exposed. It also stands off the metal at the top and will have to be glued down like ev...

Passing on a tip here - just spoke to a guy at Ware's and they use a silicone spray on the rubbers. This is one of those interior shine products for use on vinyl and plastic to make them look new. "Back to black" is one I know of which is for black plastic bumpers.
