1965 Four Door - sympathetic resto
Hi All, My new project, bought via this forum, arrived today. Lots of positive surprises: Rebuilt engine with 3500m on it Evidence of new radiator, pump, pipes Servo Riley brakes Improved washer pump A plethora of plates underneath but also proper repairs to the Spring Hangers and appears fit enough...

Riley 1.5 brake cylinder repairs
Hi All, My new project (the 4 door that’s just been sold via this site) has Riley brakes (plus servo) which is excellent. I want to strip and replace all seals as the car’s been parked up since 2017. Does anyone else with Riley brakes know the best place to get repair kits? The cylinders should be f...

Cheers Mike. Perfect. You might remember my car - white / red convertible that you took listened to once when I was trying to remove a clonk. Alan

Re: removing wax to weld
Thanks. I've ignored it for years but it's nagged at me as the only 'rust' on the car. Will now leave it as you suggest. I really don't fancy my chances with welding given all the wax.

removing wax to weld
Hi All, My car has always had a small dab of fibreglass filling a hole on the sill end, just inside the rear arch. The entire rest of the car is rust free. I've put off taking off the wing to fix this for 12 years as the sills are full of wax - so welding will be hazardous. Any recommendations of ho...

hazard warning lights
Morning All,
I bought a hazard warning lights kit some years back but never fitted it - it was from Wares. After a couple of recent unexpected 'stops' on busy roads I'd like to do this - but have lost the instructions. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks Alan

Big Allotment Challenge
Big Allotment Challenge, currently being re-screened on BBC2 Sunday Am (around 7-9 ish - varies by week) includes me, Alan. I'm a long time Morris owner (white, post production, conv) but growing stuff is another hobby!

Re: Sudden cut out
Hi All, I've now fitted the 'upgrade' pump from Bull Motif. It's from a New Zealand firm called Ecco. It's a direct replacement and very quiet. The car is running fine. I know that not everyone will agree with my choice - but my experience with the SU pump has been very variable. My first minor (bou...

Re: Sudden cut out
Thanks Everyone. I've completed the 'BMC test'. The pump is failing. Virtually no flow and very stop / start. It managed about quarter of a pint before stopping altogether. It started playing up in local traffic this Am - on a roundabout of course! On inspection, the points are very black and the ca...

Re: Sudden cut out
Hi All, Thanks for your replies. The car has been running beautifully around town but today (owing to yet another problem with my wife's utterly useless 2010 Freelander) I had to run it fast on A roads. Sure enough, stuttering resulted at speed. Off the A roads, all returned to normal. The car revs ...

Re: Sudden cut out
Well, after another 600 miles it suddenly cut out again yesterday. stuttered to a halt; restarted within 10 seconds and no issues for the rest of the day. Here is the weird bit - it was within half a mile of the past two incidents on the same dodgy stretch of the A4074! Any ideas? The car is very we...

Hi Mike, What have you used to shield the fuel pipe? My car is the white / red convertible that you took a look at for me a few years back. Alan

Re: Heat
I've taken the tip to leave the heater on, but closed, and that seems to be helping. Also running a slightly richer mix as the rear plugs looked a bit hot. So far so good. Thanks all.

What oil for dampers
Hi All,
What do you recommend for topping up dampers? I've used hydraulic jack oil (very thin) but it appears to be leaking through. The dampers have done less than 10K since replacement with re-furbished items. Thanks

Re: Sudden cut out
Hi,
Condenser changed and it's running fine. I also cleaned the fuel pump points (how long do these last?), carb float bowl (quite dirty despite only being rebuilt 8k ago), cleaned fuel pump filter (was clean).
Thanks for your help
Alan

Re: Sudden cut out
Thanks. I'll go for the condenser first up - the distributor was new 8K ago so is in good shape. Time to rummage in the garage bin for the old condenser. Will keep you posted.
