Re: Oil overfilled?
Hello again. Thank you for all the replies and advice. Even the little detour about BMWs was interesting. So, I have solved the mystery, and as usual, it was a very simple thing. Unfortunately a bit embarrasing too. I managed to convince myself that all was correct with the length and positiion of t...

Re: Oil overfilled?
Hi Les. Thank you for the reply. It wasn't hot when I drained the engine but I did let it drain for 15 minutes or so. Is there any way that over filling would present itself that I could see before it causes any problems?

Oil overfilled?
Hi Folks, I have fitted a 1275 midget gold seal engine to my '58 minor, and all seems to be going well so far. (Thanks for previous advice -this is a great forum!). The donor 1275 didn't have a dipstick, so I just used the one out of my 948 engine. It was a bit 'rattly' so I've put a couple of o-rin...

Re: 948 Distributor on 1275 engine
Thanks again. Whilst thinking about it this evening I came to the conclusion that it would be a safer bet to change to -ve earth, so this confirms it. Thank you all.

Re: 948 Distributor on 1275 engine
Thanks for all the advice. I'll get a negative earth 45D on order. It would be helpful if the accuspark adverts didn't all say -be Earth only. Good to be re-assured by you chaps that it will work ok on Boris!

Re: 948 Distributor on 1275 engine
I just had a look around for 45D distributors, and they all appear to be negative earth. The 25D is positive earth, which I need, so would that be recommended? A quick look on other forums suggest that the 25D is very similar, but tuneable. Any thoughts?

Re: 948 Distributor on 1275 engine
Thanks again for your help. I'll make the necessary purchases and adjustments, and report back :-) Mike, Yes, I've fitted the ESM front disc kit, plus servo, so much improved stopping! I don't have to open the quarter lights to assist with braking anymore  . The brakes were my first priority, ...

Re: 948 Distributor on 1275 engine
Hi Les, If using the 948 dizzy is the cause then I will change it for a midget one. I must admit, I didn't think it would make that much difference, but I'm learning all the time.

Re: 948 Distributor on 1275 engine
Thanks for the quick response bmc! I'll check the vacuum advance is working - not looked at that yet. I have to be honets, I haven't measured what the timing is set at. just got it in the ball park statically, then rotated the dizzy while it was idling to get the highest revs at tick over. I guess t...

948 Distributor on 1275 engine
Hello Folks. I've just finished installing a 1275 midget engine and gearbox to my 1958 Minor. I have also fitted a HIF44 carb and manifold from a Metro. The fue pump is new, as is the coil, but I have transplanted the original 948 distributor (points changed about 10,000 miles ago). I setthe static ...

Re: Clutch Pedal Shaft stiff when re-fitted
Thank you BMC and David for the quick responses. I suppose it doesn't have to be very far out of alignment in order to bind. I just used 'normal' grease, but I have some copper grease which will probably be better. I will try that first as I expect the reamer will cost more than the new shaft, and i...

Clutch Pedal Shaft stiff when re-fitted
Hello Everyone, I am new to this forum, and looking for a little advice as I get my 1958 saloon back on the road after around 10 years being dormant. I restored the car when I first bought him, about 25 years, but he's in some need of sprucing up again! At the moment I have the engine and gearbox ou...
