Servo

Hi Folks,

I've been running a 'Lockheed' servo on all four standard drum brakes for around 8000 daily motorway & town miles now without any hassle (touching wood!).

Just a slight low pedal, but we're getting around to that.

Leaking windscreen??

Hi Folks, Sorry for the delay in responding, but I spent the weekend in Cork with my girlfriends family. Lovely place Cork, I wholeheartedly recommend a visit. Just to expand slightly. The water is pooling inside the windscreen in the lower corners, it then overflows down the diagonal seam in the da...

Windscreen leak

Hi Folks, I have a considerable quantity of water gather in the lower corners of my front screen. I've sealed & re-sealed the rubbers, but it still leaks forming puddles on the floor ! Any idea where it's coming from or how it's getting in? (and no smart answers like....the clouds or outs...

Km/h speedos

Hi folks, Thanks for the info. I was quite sure they didn't exist, but I'll have to save the cash for while yet as €300 is quite a lot. It looks like I'll be sticking with the stickers at the mo'. The Gardai here have promised us a 'no tolerance' approach to the change over. :-? Most cars here would...

Km/h Speedos

Hi Folks, Does anyone know if any Moggies ever came with a km/h dominant speedo? We're due to go metric on distance and speed here in Ireland on 20th Jan. I find the small badly lit km/h markings very difficult to read while bouncing along the backroads! :P Temporarily I've attached a few stickers m...

Hi Folks, Hope you all had a great christmas. RIng the Birmingham Moggy centre. I got my servo kit from them and found them great to deal with. The servo I fitted to my standard 4 wheel drums seems to be working very vell, although I'm still chasing a bit of trapped air  Have a good 2005! Rich

Brake line material

Hi Guys, Thanks for the info. You've sort of confirmed what I was thinking that I'll be staying with the copper or copper-nickel. The tech guy at Master Power brakes was quite convinved they wouldn't take the pressure. Have a look at these links. Personally, I'm quite happy with the copper-nickel. S...

Brake line material

Hi Folks, This is marginally linked to Moggies so I do apologise in advance, but I really need a few opinions. My other project in 1964 Ford Galaxie Country Squire station wagon, a huge barge of a thing. Complete with cheesy woodgrain and trim :D and a 300hp v8 on single circuit drum brakes :-? I'm ...

2 Vs 4

Hi Guys, I always wondered about the 4 blades. I've not yet come across a simillar car to check it out yet. Do you reckon they used the CKD cars to get rid of components that have sat for a while in the factory? Dublin, tropical?? Not usually, mind you it is warmer than my home town of Walsall (just...

2 vs 4

Hi Guys, I'm fairly certain the car came from the factory with 4 blades. The Moggies were assembled over here by a firm called Brittains Ltd, who assembled the cars from 'completely knocked down' kits. This done to avoid the extortionately high taxes placed on new car imports by numerous Governments...

2 Vs 4

Hi Folks, Finally got around to putting the new water pump and hoses on last weekend, went ok no probs. I was just wondering, knowing that Moggies are generally overcooled is it possible to run with just 2 fanblades instead of the factory 4? I also put a 88 deg thermostat in.......great what an impr...

Welder trouble

Hi, Whats the condition of your earth lead like? Check where the cable assembly enters the body of the welder. The earth braid inside the cable is crimped into a fitting which in turn is bolted into the cable feed assembly. If, like my welder, it got occasionally tugged around by accident by the cab...

Steering rack & oil

Hi Folks, Anyone got any really smart & clever ideas to get 90wt oil into the steering rack? (my grease gun is having none of it!! :-? ) Is 90 wt ok by the way? How about conventional grease lashed onto the rack from inside the gaiters? Any smart answers greatly appreciated, esp those that entai...

Lever arm dampers

Hi Guys, Thanks for the info. I suppose my next step is try a few other standard moggies. This is the first moggy I've driven so I can't really say wether it's good/bad/indifferent. Speed bumps and country lanes would be my problem areas. How do the front shocks attach to the lower arm? Anit-roll ba...

Lever-arm damper alternatives

Hi folks,

Has anyone fitted any of the aftermarket tube type shock absorbers to a 2 door? Do they make a difference? How do they fit? Is it a pain of a job?

How about anti-roll bars?

Thanks for any feedback.

Coils

Hi, Was the old coil wired backwards (+ve & -ve reversed)? The engine will run ok, but the coil will only produce around 50% (?) of its rated output. My coil gave exactly the same symptoms as it warmed up, it died on me on a very busy motorway roundabout in Dublin. Character building I reckon......

Spongey brakes & servos!

Hmmm, a few differing opinions.!!! Personally, I'd be wary of power assisting the front brakes only from the point of view of poss excessive weight transfer. This would undoubtedly contribute to rear end skidding. As I see it, servo-assistance on all four wheels doesn't alter the front-rear pressure...

Try Demon Tweeks. They have a load of stuff for seat mounting. Search on the net for them.

Spongey brakes & servos

Hi Jeff, I mounted the servo angled upwards at around 40 deg, and the airvalve pointing downwards at around 30 deg as per instructions. I spoke to Delphi Automotive who manufacture the servos under the Lockheed name and they couldn't shed any light on it. Although I fitted a new genuine Lockheed mas...
