Re: Ran out of fuel, now have issues.
A few years ago, my car got vapour lock and the float bowl ran dry, equivalent to running out of fuel. I had similar symptoms to yours after that and had to be recovered home. I discovered eventually that when the float bowl had run dry, it had sucked some dirt into the jet. I detached the pipe from...

Looking for local Traveller owner
Hi, I've been wanting for a while to drive, or at least ride in, another Traveller. I'm often bothered by various things with mine, mainly the deafening noise, but I've never been in another so have nothing to compare it to. I was wondering if there was anyone with a standard 1098 Traveller near to ...

Re: Naming your Minor
Mine gets called a lot of names I won't repeat here!
Before I replaced the engine it earned the name 'Casey Junior' due to its performance on hills.

You would also not have any rear lights if the wood were removed.

Re: The General State of Parts
I have found new rubber parts to be particularly poor. I fitted loads of new seals and other rubbers recently and they're already cracked and brittle. It's a real problem since they're often tricky and time consuming to replace. The new rubbers I fitted on the rear lights are the worst offenders. Th...

Finally got my heater working...
Hi, I've been driving around all winter in a hat and gloves, bemoaning the fact that my heater used to be good and now it basically didn't work at all. I tried flushing the heater matrix out multiple times to no avail. I had resigned myself to taking it out in the spring and overhauling it for next ...

Re: Boot Lock problem
Good to hear it's sorted. Unfortunately, this is a common theme with replacement parts, an awful lot of them are just terribly made. I had to have a new boot handle on my Traveller as the old one got lost somehow when rewooding it. It's already playing up and is difficult to unlock. New rubber parts...

Re: What are reverse lights for?
Indicators have got tiny on some modern cars, or they're those 'chasing lights' ones that I often don't spot as being an indicator. On the other hand, new headlights seem to be required to let you see into the future, and blind oncoming drivers!

Re: Lurching under acceleration and dying when approaching junctions
Just reading through your original post again. From what I understand, the car was running fine, albeit rich, you adjusted the mixture and then it started the lurching behaviour. Assuming that's right, and that something else hasn't happened as a pure coincidence, there are only too options: you adj...

Re: Any Volvo 240 owners here?
Okay, they appear to be a bit like Marmite then! I suppose I'm going to have to find one to test drive.
The gas guzzling does put me off a bit but I do like the fact that I've seen ones with close to 300k on the clock for sale.
Thanks for the suggestions of other options to look into.

Any Volvo 240 owners here?
Hi, I've owned my Traveller since 2014 and used it as my only car in all weather since then. A few years ago I had extensive welding done to the chassis and a year ago I had it resprayed and rewooded. After a year with the new wood already looking unhappy with the weather, along with water leaks and...

Re: What are reverse lights for?
I think there is a big difference in the original invention and need for reversing lights and what they have become on modern vehicles. I've always believed they were to see what was behind when reversing, and certainly the reason I fitted an after market one to my first car (1969 Mk 1 Escort) in t...

Re: Lurching under acceleration and dying when approaching junctions
Welcome to old car ownership. Try not to panic and assume the worst - try the simple stuff first and get in contact with your local branch. As above, don't assume the worst but also rest assured that with these cars, even 'the worst' is not that bad and pretty easy and cheap to sort. I'd check ther...

Re: What are reverse lights for?
I would imagine they were original used for the purpose you describe James !! What else could it be ? What I mean is were they intended to be an indication or an illumination, primarily. When I was discussing it, I was here I only one who thought it was mainly to see behind you. The consensus was t...

What are reverse lights for?
When I arrived in the car park at work yesterday morning, a colleague of mine was complaining that his new car only had a tiny reverse light and that it failed to illuminate the road behind him. I said that this was my main issue with not having one on my car but it got us into a discussion about wh...

Re: Front Supsension NOVICE advice needed
With regards to tools, second hand tools are often not only cheaper but better. Boot sales are a great source of good tools. I often see old Britool socket sets and spanner going for a few quid. A lot of new affordable tools are pretty poor quality in my experience and in the case of whitworth spann...

Are you sure you can't pick up from ESM? I thought they'd stopped 'turn up and order' counter sales but you could still order online or on the phone then go and pick it up.

Re: Engine out
When I replaced my engine, I unbolted the gearbox crossmember and dropped the engine and gearbox out the bottom of the car in one piece. I had the car lifted high enough that I could then pull it out from underneath with a rope, sitting on a piece of carpet. I put it back in the same way.
