1275 swap
Hey guys, I have a 1275 marina engine just sat around after big end went. The 1098 now in my moggy is a bit underpowered and want the 1275 back in. Is there any companies that do a buy back on a reconditioned 1275 like ESM do for the 1098s? Or should I just lump it to a engineer and get them to do t...

Re: No oil pressure and loud knocking
Ok, I've decided to go for the overhaul. It's got the 8inch drums on the front and I always found the brakes suitable (until recently obviously).
Grateful as always for your help.

Re: No oil pressure and loud knocking
Thought as much, might source a HIF38. In fact, I've got an original carb somewhere, will find it. Brake problem, nearside front cyclinder leak. Shoes contaminated, they've worn thin and scored the drum. Might be the time to change to discs? Or would you just do a brake overhaul? Opinions?[frame] ht...

Sorry it seems to be running rich. It's a mg metro carb.
Will get them checked.

Re: No oil pressure and loud knocking
Update, Sorry it's been a while. 1098 in and runs pretty well. Possibly being a little overfueled by the mg metro carb though so need to play with that a bit. Now I have a problem with my brakes. Basically the pedal is travelling all the way to the floor. There is some braking, but down near floor l...

Re: No oil pressure and loud knocking
Just bought a 1098 with no breather on the rocker cover, can I swap it out with my 1275 marina rocker cover or do I need to get a new one with breather.

Re: No oil pressure and loud knocking
It wasn't too strong actually, maybe not as much a ticking time bomb.
Sorry Bm, didn't see your post. I don't know if it was mechanical or not. Photos weren't taken by me.

Re: No oil pressure and loud knocking
My mechanic is going to get under the car and send some pics of the gearbox to ensure it is from a minor. If the flywheel has been modified to fit the marina 1275 will it still take the 1098?
Cheers

Re: No oil pressure and loud knocking
So I might be able to source a 1098 engine, however there are some modifications to my car eg a mg metro carb, large bore exhaust with 3 branch exhaust. I know thanks to bmcecosse that I need to check to make sure it's the original minor gearbox, will the 3 branch transfer across or will it need to ...

Just an update. Sat in car waiting for aa. Thought I'd give it a quick turnover. Oil pressure is back and knocking noise nearly gone but still a little bit audible.

Re: No oil pressure and loud knocking
It's a 4 speed gearbox but unsure if it's still a minor one? I don't foresee it having been changed.

Re: No oil pressure and loud knocking
If it's not the crank and instead something even worse, what engines could be a straightforward easy swap?
