Re: Front folding seats in a four door saloon?!
My ’57 4 door came with fold and tipping fitted Passenger side, and fold and tipping plus for / aft adjustable Drivers side. Rather liking fold and tipping seats, and adjustable, I foolishly fitted to both side. Adjustable lever prevents tipping. Ho Hum

Re: Body Build and Chassis Number
Car passed it's MoT today. Rear axle number I have not been able to ID so far. It is early axle, 998 cc ratio. All numbers will be reviewed and a diligent search given when DVLA forms are received. I don’t recall BMHIT noting rear axle number and will review. Gearbox is later ribbed type, and engine...

Re: Body Build and Chassis Number
DVLA very helpful, and had it inspected, however they do not hold the registration for the Chassis / Body number and following a review, a consultation with me by telephone, and another review, have this week given me 2 options: 1. Type Approval and “Q” Mark 2. Complete the appropriate forms for a r...

Re: Electronic Ignition, Starter, Rear Main Oil Seal 1098
Appears to be sorted and main user enjoys on her daily commute.
Timing was badly out that created problems.
Also plugs too hard and occaisonal misfire until cleared: sorted with better plugs.
And carb needle changed to AH. Vast improvedment over an M.
Still learning.....

Re: Electronic Ignition, Starter, Rear Main Oil Seal 1098
Investigations after Compression Test discovered, as expected, Head Gasket burnt through between 3 and 3 cylinders. Cleaned, checked fitted and fixed. No doubt caused by wildly advanced ignition timing. But, no pinking evident. Have not worked out compression ration, but 180 psi compression test wit...

Re: Body Build and Chassis Number
Still with DVLA who are investigating. I sent them a copy of the old MoT with DVLA Taunton Office stamp when registration was changed, and Chassis number matches V5 and MoT
Car runs well though, but 4 Doors require more agility to enter and exit from that 2 Door.

Re: Electronic Ignition, Starter, Rear Main Oil Seal 1098
Thank you all for input. Very interesting reading the feedback. Rear oil seals have turned up. I have used them with success on various rebuilt engines with success: probably “belt and braces” and never had clutch contamination. Which of course could be that a decent engine rebuild negates the need ...

Electronic Ignition, Starter, Rear Main Oil Seal 1098
Anyone experienced peculiar timing issues when fitting Electronic Ignition? I fitted an Aldon Distributor to match desired advance curve – all was well on points. However, I then fitted electronic ignition, Aldon Igniter, to match the Distributor. Car runs well, but out of curiosity I “strobed” the ...

Re: Body Build and Chassis Number
FAJ11/496436 confirmed by BMIHT and certificate issued. DVLA contacted to amend V5C and original registration number sought. BMIHT do not hold that information. Any one able to assist with stamping up the VIN plate please, or is that a self help? I have the correct rectangular plate unstamped, but w...

Re: Body Build and Chassis Number
Thank you for all who have contributed: my Morris received the Heritage certificate today. Chassis number is M-AS3/496436. With careful re-interpretation of numbers, yes, what I had read as a 5 is a 3. Clarendon Grey with Grey trim. Manufactured 11-12 April 1957. But: From Potteries website Mid 1958...

Re: Unleaded heads
Hullo All
Is there a significant difference between a 1098 head and 948 head? By significant, bores spacing difference? Any problems fitting a 1098 head to a 948 that |I should be aware of?
Thanks

Re: Various speedo questions
Than you for the input.
I suspect Odometer is “kaput” and am reluctant to investigate and lose a working speedo.
Speedo detail: SN4401/15 1500
Should anyone have one they wish to sell I would welcome the opportunity to buy.

Re: Various speedo questions
Hullo all. Regarding Bronze faced Speedos on ’57 car. Mine is duff in so far that the speedo works, but odometer has failed. This is the indicator in speedo version, 2 x Orange warning lights at top, red charge, orange oil at bottom.
Any one have one for sale please? Preferably working
Many Thanks

No detail here: however the V5 has M/25 xxxxxxx Yes figure Five not S. Will look this evening for date of first reg but, V5 states Oct 1960. Which is perhaps 2 errors.

Re: Body Build and Chassis Number
Registration was apparently sold by DVLA to Elite registrations. When previous owner purchased the car, he was given another registration by DVLA which =was transferrable as it was DVLA error. He liked the Reg and transferred it to another vehicle of his. Hence this Morris has a non transferable reg...
