Re: DVLA call for evidence
Hi Phew, that was some survey, though some of it repeated the same questions!! I suppose it's nice to be asked, provided we are listened to but if we don't express our opinions, how can anyone take notice? I don't think the self styled Welsh Government would bother to ask, if they had control over t...

Re: its a bit of a shock.
You can get a bonnet prop extender :D I don't know that I ever hit my head on the bonnet and only open it fully when needed but it is an excellent device and makes it a lot easier when taking out the engine. As to the subject at hand, I actually don't like driving modern stuff, as it lacks feel. As...

Re: Ford gearbox
It all came out easily enough. I toe clip strapped the back of the gearbox to a small trolley jack and then when it could be lifted clear, undid the strap. For the first time, I used an engine leveler, which I am sure will make it easier going the other way. The less said of the 5 speed conversion, ...

Re: Lawnmower Carburettor Ethanol ?
Years ago, in the days of four star, you could start a car, that had been stood for a while and it was fine (I never just left them for months on end anyway). Back in 2017, I tried to start my Midget 1500 after a biggish engine job and it just went futt futt futt and would not pick up. I pumped the ...

Re: Garage lights
I decided to do my own, so fixed some bulb holders to a piece of wood. I seems to work well enough and is easy to fix. It's not likely that all the bulbs will go at once. The photo doesn't really do it justice; there is more light than it suggests. The wood is 2m long and the end bulbs six feet apar...

Re: Ford gearbox
The Midget manifold comes out level and the end is angled at 20 degrees. The Mini carb face is tilted at 30 degrees BUT the inlet tracts slope upwards from the head. My exhaust manifold still stands a bit too proud but so I gather, the Maniflow LCB will clear their Mini inlet. I took some measuremen...

Re: Ford gearbox
It's the inlet manifold that is meant for a Cooper S but it's made by Maniflow.

Best if I attach my scribblings.......give everyone a laugh .
Also, a few pages further along, there are sums with dots between the numbers and I don't know what they represent?

Re: Ford gearbox
It's all ready for loosening and lifting this weekend. I was thinking put a piece of 2 X 2, to support the gearbox and remove the mountings. Then support on a trolley jack (Remove the 2 X 2), which can roll forward as the engine is lifted and once sufficiently far, the gearbox will simply be raised ...

Re: Any mathematicians on here?
Yes it's the numbers, which appear to be fed into the last equation on page 69. So far as I know, p, placed in front of the square bracket, means that the contents of the bracket are multiplied by p. Within the square bracket, the figures in the regular brackets are worked out , multiplied by 1 /E1 ...

Any mathematicians on here?
I am trying to work out how the equation, at the bottom of page 69, becomes the solution on page 70. It is a long time since I did O level maths but I don't recall anything quite like this, so maybe this would be A level or perhaps higher again? As I read it, you have P X what is in the square brack...

Re: Ford gearbox
Had a bit of spare time today, so disconnected the clutch slave cylinder and the prop shaft came out very easily (Easier than on a Midget), so I think that's the last thing to disconnect before the engine comes out.

Re: Stronger Halfshafts
I had a set for my MG Midget (Shorter) but replaced them with a set made by Quaife, that have lasted over thirty years and numerous hillclimb starts (Between 1992 & 1997). The Quaife ones had splines at both ends. I am looking into getting some for the Traveller but the issue could be that the d...

Seems a bit self defeating, having to make cars into tanks, in order to protect you from being hit by another tank. Lighter cars are surely easier to control. I remember my father made the point that when cars cocoon you, to disguise the impression of speed, it makes drivers less aware of what is ha...
