Re: MOT & how else would you prove roadworthy…..

This reminds me of a fairly local MOT station. Their own cars were mobile scrapheaps (It was well known for having wrecks of cars, covered in brambles, outside) and I cannot believe they didn't turn a blind eye to faults. The father was a nice enough man, now long gone but his son seemed to have a c...

Re: MOT & how else would you prove roadworthy…..

My father used to recall how some cars were in a shocking state before MOTs. He mentioned play in steering boxes. However, MOTs didn't put and end to unroadworthy cars. As to historics, I hope people don't abuse the concession, as in ignorance some will tend to judge things by their standards and ex...

Re: Workmanship this bad borders on dishonesty.

In retrospect you should have done the conversion yourself and then having the satisfaction of doing the job correctly. Phil Hindsight is a wonderful thing but I hoped it might save time and I had a lend of a tatty but working Minor whilst my car was being converted. As it turned out, I would have ...

Re: What to do to make them a better driver???

I have some experience of VW Beetles. They were well built and generally better finished than Minors. They could be driven flat out all day BUT didn't handle anything like as well as a Minor. The VW was built for Autobahns, the Minor for British A & B roads. I don't like modern cars, as they lac...

Workmanship this bad borders on dishonesty.

After a long time laid up, I am finally sorting out the Traveller, to get it the way I wanted it. Various things have delayed me and I suppose the most basic has been not enough time for everything. Annoyingly, some of the work involved has been rectifying what others have done badly and top of the ...

dudload wrote: Tue Apr 29, 2025 11:48 am how's your engine running after what looks like new ESM mounts fitted?

both Svenedin and myself had horrible vibrations and i had to search out 2nd hand rubbers to get rid of it....
I have a few jobs to do before it will be running. I have the old mounts but they are perishing.

Re: Engine mounts

I fitted them yesterday. I had assembled the crane and the engine and box were assembled on a trolley, ready to be moved to the front of the car. Since I had only taken the engine out, I didn't really know what to expect, so this was possibly going to be a trial run. The biggest problem was that sin...

Engine mounts

When refitting an engine, to a late Traveller, is it better to first fix the engine mountings to the engine or to the mounting turrets?

Brake master cylinder

I have just had my servo, brake master cylinder and hydraulic clutch cylinders overhauled (And lined with stainless steel) and noted that the rear union, on the brake master cylinder was fitted with a bleed screw (I have never had a Minor without a servo but know this normally goes the the rear brak...

Re: Wildlife

I have a robin who calls on me, who likes dry porridge oats and sultanas. There used to be a blackbird, who was often with him. Last September, both seemed to disappear (Perhaps an abundance of wild food). I think the robin, who now calls, could be the same one as before but the blackbird, who now s...

Re: Anybody bought a Morris Minor as a retirement project?

Not as such but it won't be finished that long before I retire, as things have turned out. At present I am rectifying some extremely shoddy workmanship, that was done by Charles Wares but once that is done, the car will be the way I want it to be. It's had to wait it's turn, behind other projects, n...

Re: Refitting engine and box

Many thanks; good photo. I can see that the standard gearbox mount is very different and I don't think you could remove that before the gearbox or refit it after the gearbox. Mine was complicated by a brake pipe, going from the master cylinder to the servo, that was attached to the cross member (Att...

Refitting engine and box

When refitting the engine and gearbox, am I right to say that the wiring harness goes under the gearbox cross member (5 speed in my case)? I can't recall which it was and the photos I took, before taking the engine out, don't make it clear. Judging by the clips on the chassis rails, they look like t...

Re: Deluxe models

When the engine (And whilst it is out, the gearbox and clutch) are all done and other work is being done (The front wings will need to come off to be repaired and what is behind can be checked), it is a good idea to turn the engine over, every couple of weeks, if only to ensure that the same valve s...

This book is very useful on details of spec - https://www.mmoc.org.uk/Shop/Original-Morris-Minor-by-Ray-Newell . I can see your storage container in the background, mentioned in the other post. Good luck with the project; I can see there is much to do but at least Morris Minors enjoy good parts supp...

Re: Decent car cover

Let us know how you get on. A friend has just mentioned that small de humidifiers (1.5 litre capacity - I presume this means the liquid container, which I imagine it would need to be emptied quite a lot) aren't at all expensive. I've no experience of them but I think the Carcoon has one built in. At...

Re: More woke nonsense

This is as much the self-righteous attitude of an academic living in a bubble of academia as anything else. I said something, along these lines, when I signed the petition. I also quoted the old saying, that "It's not the mouth it comes out of, so much as the mind it goes into". We've all...

Re: More woke nonsense

Agreed but Cecil Kimber wasn't trying to insult anyone when he announced the MG Midget, no more than the people who named this pub. It's a word, that describes something small. What is so wrong with being short anyway? Nuvolari was only 5'2. Will they cancel the sale of "Shorts" in pubs, i...
