Re: Remote brake fluid reservoir pipe routing

I just bought one of these for my Allard, which has the same master cylinder as the Jags, and possibly also the morris minors? I think it's a Lockheed one. https://www.sngbarratt.com/uk/#!/English/parts/66e64930-d528-41f1-ab2a-4927435d3508?gt=Brake%20Master%20Cylinder%20Filler%20Plug%20%26%20Gasket%...

rayofleamington, you mentioned checking that the engine was RWD, well I've got a spare engine I picked up with engine number that starts with 12HD not 12G as a previous discussion on here talked about. It's out of an MG metro. I currently have an Ital engine in my moggy, will they swap easily? Cheer...

I replaced the rubber seals for the rod ends of the valves, is that what you mean? Surely if they were worn new seals would solve the problem at least for a while? Or am I barking up the wrong tree?

burning oil

Hi, My moggie (which I now know has a 1300 Ital engine in) is burning rather a lot of oil. I've replaced the head gasket, and while the head was off checked and reground all the valves. They all appeared to be in good nick too. The compression was between 160 and 170 on all cylinders except number 2...

interesting figures there. I'm assuming pcd is some sort of footprint ratio? Surely dolomite wheels aren't any thinner than original moggies are they? As for your girlfriend, mine prefers my 1950 Land Rover to the moggy. Wait till the winter I say, then she'll change her tune - when there's a force ...

oh, and steering wheels too...?

being fairly tall, and having a 4 door saloon with a very large original steering wheel I have great difficulty getting in and out of the car. Can anyone make any recommendations as to a smaller steering wheel that will easily fit? I hear a mini one works very easily?
Thanks

dolomite or spitfire wheels...?

I hear that Triumph dolomite/spitfire wheels will fit marina hubs, can anyone confirm/deny this?
Does anyone know of any other wheels I can fit to give my trusty moggy a slightly larger footprint on those wet west country roads?
cheers,

so will any head pretty much fit on then? (within sensible reason of course!) Are there any age-ranges for metro heads that anyone can give me off the top of their heads? It's a marina engine 1300 but I don't know any more than that I'm afraid. I'm worried that I might buy a head and it not fit. As ...

Head Gasket vs Head change

I need to change the head gasket on my 1300 marina engine (don't know what year I'm afraid) and was wondering if now might be a good time to look at replacing the head? I've heard the one in the metro has bigger exhaust valves and so would give better performance? Is it worth looking into changing t...

more information

OK well I still don't know the exact spec of the parts, but I can say it's a carb off a metro turbo, and the engine is a 1275. A couple of things...can anyone tell me what the small piece of hose coming out of the back of the carb is? It doesn't go anywhere and I suspect it should go to the air filt...

well...I did a google search on David Vizard (I didn't know who he was!) and pages and pages came up on tuning just about every engine under the sun so I'm assuming he approves of K&Ns. I didn't take what my "mate" said as gospel immediately but when someone asks such a question immedi...

I'll find out the exact specification for the engine and carb, then post them here. Who's Cam by the way?

well the guy at the garage that did the work assured me it was set up correctly and had the right jets. Would they cause the flat spots?

psshhhht noises

since having a water-heated manifold, bigger bore exhaust and carb from a metro turbo (with K&N filter) I seem to be experiencing a distinct pshhhht noise when I blip the throttle, along with a more worrying flat spot when accelerating, normally about half revs and most noticable in 4th where I ...

Hi Kevin, It's a repetitive knocking and relative to the speed I'm doing when I brake. I did think the damper bushes looked quite old but I can't see how that would cause the noise, especially only in such a narrow band of braking pressure. Can you recommend where I can get new bushes? knock knock knock...

Hi, I've got a 1962 Minor with 5-speed gearbox and Marina engine, axles and front disc brakes. When I brake I'm getting a quite severe knocking sound that I can feel through the steering wheel. I've had brake calipers off and reconditioned them, the discs appear not to be warped at all, everything i...
