Thanks,It is the earth (green yellow) wire that had become detached. I have charged battery and it starts when I attach lead. It is just the issue of why does the ignition light remain on after turning off and removing key but go out when I turn ignition on?

After a short stop on my journey the battery was flat - I found a lead had come off the alternator (easy to put on). BUT I noticed although the ignition was turned off the ignition light was on.
