Series II replacement engine
I have what i am convinced is a series II 1953 that has had a sidevalve retro fitted to make it appear to be an MM. I don't think the sidevalve motor is worth investing any more money in, so I am considering transplanting a 1098 complete with gear box into it. My question is... is this a straight sw...

Engine machining specialists near Berkshire
I need some machining doing on my 1953 side valve engine. It needs cylinder liners fitting, the head and block need resurfacing and the valve guides have a bit of play. Whilst we are at it i would also like an unleaded conversion. Can anyone recommend someone that can do this type of work near Berks...

Re: USHM3 918cc side valve engine
'Not common' - the way forward is going to be bore + sleeve, and then new pistons from ESM. Is the crank ok for a re-grind - or is it at bottom limits too? Thanks. so the plan is to lift the engine and see what condition the bottom end is in. I am not going to be able to do this for a few weeks now...

USHM3 918cc side valve engine
I have a USHM3 918cc side valve engine. It doesn't run and needs a rebuild. It has damaged cylinders and already has +60 pistons. I don't have the option of using a modern engine as if i do I will have the Series MM lynch mob out to get me :D. So i either need advice on getting this rebuilt or does ...

Re: 917 Side valve engine advice
Thanks everyone for your input. I now know much more about what I have. Its a Spring 1953 Series MM. It has the right engine but it isn't the one it left the factory with. So the air filter may be adding confusion as to if it was an export vehicle. But I still have many questions about what to do wi...

Re: 917 Side valve engine advice
For what it's worth, I'd be finding an 803 to replace it, far more parts available, or even a 948. Sounds like an 803 gearbox, but the way to tell is the 803 box has an aluminum casting, the side valve box is cast I think. Are you certain it's a Morris side valve? I'll post some photos tomorrow if ...

Re: 917 Side valve engine advice
803cc OHV A series, and an aluminium casting gearbox with 'pudding stirrer' lever. So yours has been retrofitted with a side valve? Is the side valve worth the effort and expense to rebuild? Am I better trying to get the original engine type back in ? Can I make use of my existing gear box or does ...

Re: 917 Side valve engine advice
'55 split screen with side valve? Not from the factory it wasn't! You shouldn't have any problems sleeving it back from 60 thou, Morris themselves were going to bore out the production engines to 980cc I believe but costs were prohibitive I agree its not the original engine. The chassis plate doesn...

917 Side valve engine advice
I have just got a 1955 split screen side valve minor. It didn't run so i have taken the head off to inspect. 2 of the cylinders have significant damage. I suspect they have broken rings. The pistons are marked as +60 which i believe is the maximum size available. Does anyone have any advice on eithe...
