Re: Worn track end rods?

So, bringing an old post up again. I had the front of the car up the other day and noticed quite a bit of wiggle room in the front wheels.... The front 'end' of the wheels move a good inch left and right..... And on inspection the movement point is the track rod end. Recently passed MOT. Is this mov...

Re: Quick question about bottom trunnion removal....

To unscrew and remove the bottom trunnion from the swivel pin you will need to remove the hub and back-plate. OK, getting round to this at last (tomorrow).....I now have the correct size socket for the nut holding the hub assembly on. So, when removing the hub assembly, which will allow me to take ...

Re: Door sag / hinge adjustment

Thanks Ianmack/Trickydicky,

If I lift the door there is some play in it and I can 'manually' realign it to fit the frame nicely....the posts etc are quite sound. In what way does the hinge wear? Is it the pin or something?

Door sag / hinge adjustment

Hi all, Very quick question. My drivers door has sagged and I think I need to try a spacer on the bottom hinge to lift it up a bit. Does the spacer (which is probably going to be some penny washers first) go on the hinge part against the post, or the hinge part against the door? I imagine the door? ...

Re: Quick question about bottom trunnion removal....

Still lots to learn I guess

BMC, yes standard brakes, are you referring to the top brake fitting to the brake cylinder, or the pipe bridge? These are the only ones I've seen up close so if I don't know if they're different to the norm :-?

Re: Quick question about bottom trunnion removal....

Hi all, So I made an attempt at this this afternoon but came up against an unexpected step in the process which is that the lower trunnion does not unscrew off because it gets caught on the backplate!! I don't think I've any choice but to remove the back plate, and therefore I guess I need to remove...

Re: Quick question about bottom trunnion removal....

Hi BMC, do I just loosen them or is it completely undo them?.....and will anything happen to the torsion bar in this process? Keen not to accidentally 'adjust' anything and this turn into a bigger job :o

Thanks

Quick question about bottom trunnion removal....

I've jacked up the car onto an axle stand, removed the tyre, supported the bottom arm (?) with the jack, undone the nuts each side of the bottom pin.......next.....do I need to undo the bolts that hold the two parts of the lower arm together (one shown on the right hand side on this pic), so that I ...

Replacing steering rack gaitors

Hi all, One of mine has split completely so needs to be replaced, and will do the other side too. Is this fairly easy to do and thinking of the parts order, is there anything that always breaks while doing this job that I need to order at the same time? I've read up how to do it, and it looks straig...

Worn track end rods?

Hi all, I had to replace a rubber gaitor for one of the track end rods for the MOT today. On doing so I took a photo of the ball joint as there look to be some uneven wear around the hole the ball socket sits in, see photo....[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1435525924_21227 [/frame] The b...

Problem wheel nut! (my fault!)

Hi all, I'll confess now, I made this problem a lot worse :-?[frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1435525246_21227 [/frame] The nut was very stiff and rounded off with the wheel wrench so I thought I'd try and cut it off i.e. cut the sides off and knock whats left off with a screwdriver and ha...

Brake lights / indicator - fuse keeps blowing!

Hi all, I've set aside some diagnostic time this weekend to look into this but thought I'd drop a note on here incase this is something people have experienced before and could point me in the right direction. Basically the fuse for the brake lights/indicators keeps blowing. I think also the brake l...

yep, screwed it back on and the above method worked a treat :D

I even felt brave enough to try it back on and off a couple more times to perfect my 'technique', I'm a bona-fide expert now

Upper trunnion grease nipple

Hi all, Used my new grease gun for the very first time yesterday  on one of the two upper trunnions but got a bit stuck, literally....the gun end won't come off the nipple. Swivels around nicely but will not pull off at all :o . I think its because the gun is brand new and so the sprung clips a...
