Well that explains why the charger was showing full charge. I suspect it is because the battery couldn't take any more charge so the charger thinks it is up to capacity. Clearly a duff battery. New one and everything seems fine. Strange that my battery charger was registering the old battery was fully charged.
I will take the old one back at the weekend and see if I can get some money back.

Thanks, I will try another battery if I can hold of one. I jump started it off a Chrysler Grand Voyager with a huge cranking output so not really a good one to use.

Hi Chesney, I cleaned both battery terminals, cleaned the earth to body strap and put vaseline on all the battery terminals as that was my initial thought as well. Thanks for the advice.
