Re: Low budget spraying technique

I've always found that the easiest way to get a professional spray job, with no hassle, no breathing of noxious fumes, AND your nose hair stays its natural colour is to use.............................................a cheque book.

Re: spur socket

Couple of thoughts.....outside socket must be protected by 30ma rcd. If your wiring is recent it may not have sockets wired as a 'ring' in 2.5 mm cable, lots of newer properties have 4 mm 'radial' circuits. Any 'new' circuit requires Building Regs approval or be 'signed off' by an authorised electri...

Pretentious Experts

Is anyone else irritated by the way in which some so called 'experts' look down their noses at what they term 'MOT standard repairs'? A recent classic journal quoted an 'expert' as saying "Sadly there are still (cars) out there with MOT standard repairs consisting of patches rather than panel r...

Gearbox cover screws

I've removed my gearbox cover to facilitate replacement of clutch/brake pedal bushes and shaft. I have half a dozen 'problem' screws, a couple of which I had to drill out and the remainder simply didn't have a caged nut and were just 'sitting there'. I have successfully re-tapped the ones I had to d...

Re: Defamation

You are absolutely correct in substance, but you are ignoring the important factor of litigation risk. No commercial organisation ignores the possibility that courts will arrive at perverse judgments, and that serious money can have been spent on fees before then. Hence the often used phrase "...

Defamation

In the limited time I have been a member of the club and been using this forum, I have been surprised by the reluctance to report suppliers offering poor customer service and or defective or inferior quality parts. This seems to stem from the Club being afraid of being sued for defamation. The reali...

Re: Spray Can Paint Match

I also am a fan of rattle cans, but in fairness to your supplier how good the colour match will be may not be in his control. In the 40+ years since our cars left the factory who knows what refinishing they might have undergone, and if it is an original finish there will be considerable fading. The ...

Re: No bleed nipples

I understand your feelings but it is normal practice for cylinders to be supplied without nipples - just plastic plugs to keep out any dirt or contaminants. I have no connection to Bull Motif or any other supplier. At risk of stating the obvious, try to curb your enthusiasm and wait for the new nipp...

Re: Wow! Hot wheels!

I don't think it's worth messing with a repair kit, if the piston is sticking there is most likely some corrosion on it or the cylinder bore. Try to get a quality replacement, some of the stuff out there is not good! Did you fit good quality brake shoes? there are again some very poor (rubbish) shoe...

Re: Brakes pulling to right

As a general rule brakes that are fine when cold but display problems when warm/hot suggests a sticky cylinder/caliper allowing one side to get too hot - easily checked by feeling the wheels after a run using the brakes a few times to see which side is hotter. Some brake imbalance problems, whether ...

Re: bottom rad hose query

A quick 'google of morris minor bottom hose gives photos of same and both sorts can be found. If you follow the link 'visit page' it takes you to the relevant supplier. There is one on ebay (made by Gates) that looks to match your original, priced at £8.99. Perhaps the difference depends on which si...

Re: Amber warning light stays on

Minors have two warning lights for the lubrication system, a red one which warns of low oil pressure and an amber one which is intended to indicate the need for a filter change. If it is just the amber lamp which is coming on (and staying on above idle rpm) you may need an oil and filter change. If ...

Re: Crankshaft nut.

Personally not keen on the spanner/starter method but each to their own. If your air impact gun doesn't do the trick then if you work on other vehicles as well get yourself a MAINS powered electric one - Machine Mart do one for reasonable money. Those are real beasties and much more powerful that th...

Re: Files a bit dull/blunt?

To avoid upsetting our sensitive readers I think files should be renamed thus: a. Rough Cut b. Illegitimate c. Smooth d. Second cut e. Dead smooth f. Special cuts. Also brake you know what should be renamed to "procedure to extract unwanted air (yes air not hair) from a hydraulic circuit"....

Re: Servo and Peddle box

I've said it before but make no apology for repeating................only use top quality brake shoes, the cheap ones are too hard and have a lower coefficient of friction.
