Re: Electric Fuel Pump SU v Hardi
Yes, and like many others I also carry a spare SU pump in the boot. Probably a good idea though to check it periodically though. With reference to Stephen's comments above about the damp, I do keep the spare well wrapped up in cloth and then a plastic bag. The wiping action of the points does help I...

Re: Whats in a name
Most of the names mentioned so far in this thread are masculine, although I imagine female names are generally more common, due to the generous curves of the car!

Re: S u carb
Guessing that it is the float chamber, if it is leaking badly it may be that the float has developed a leak. The old metal ones are particularly prone to this after many decades.Once I was driving and noticed a sudden smell of petrol. I stopped and saw that the float was leaking, removed the lid and...

Re: Condenser....again.
As ever, I recommend fitting Distributor Doctor points and condensor, and you may as well also carry these as spares, on the basis that nothing lasts forever and anyway they are not going to break the bank as extra insurance for peace of mind. Once you have done it several times with a feeler gauge,...

Re: Steering rack oiling/greasing
EP80/90 will migrate to the bellows nearest the oil nipple and not get to the other end of the rack and that is why there needs to be more than one oil/grease nipple. Whilst the original steering rack had a single oil nipple it does not mean it cannot be improved upon. Agreed it can be improved upo...

Re: Steering rack oiling/greasing
Yes, one of those oil guns will do the job, but grease will be OK - some swear it is as good, or better, than oil. Having said that, my preference is for oil....

Re: Alternative horn switch
Yes, I wonder why the OP's horn is apparently so feeble. They are usually pretty loud. I substituted one for the doorbell once, but it had to come down as every time someone pressed the doorbell button I nearly jumped out of my skin! Like Stephen says, it may just need a bit of TLC.

Re: Clutch rattle and slowing engine
On very steep hills it is also worth positioning the front wheels so that, if the handbrake fails, the car will roll into the kerb/hedge and stop, rather than rolling across the road into traffic, or down the hill.

Thanks for the link Chief, I’ve read through and although no clear explanation, it shows pretty well unanimous condemnation of Johnathan being banned, and rightly so. A long time ago but what a shame. Some old names in those posts, where are they now ? They appear to have banned themselves ! :D I t...
