Re: Mot Centre damaged my car
As several others have said, I would take the positive from this - it has exposed an area that was clearly badly corroded, from the inside by the looks of it. I agree that, even if it seems perverse, the garage has inadvertently done you a favour. You can get it repaired and be happy in the knowled...

Re: Mot Centre damaged my car
I don't think we can really blame a 3rd party for exposing such deterioration can we? Yes, i actually do if its by jacking the car in the wrong place. Sorry, we will just have to agree to disagree. Whilst I agree with much of what you say, the garage jacked the car poorly and without due respect to...

Re: Mot Centre damaged my car
I think we have two main points here that are in my view rather separate from one another. 1) They jacked the car up in the wrong place.. If they hadn’t, I would not have a holed and buckled panel. 2) There is obviously some corrosion to the panel that is now visible once they damaged it. One does n...

Re: Mot Centre damaged my car
Look like to me it's corrosion that's caused the hole! & Most MOT inspectors mark defects with yellow chalk. Its hard with this picture to get a clear understanding, but the 'chalk' is actually paint, the same colour as their lift. The panel is caved in, not from corrosion, but from impact. The...

Re: Mot Centre damaged my car
Many thanks for the replies. I'll take the car to a restorer i know and see what he thinks. I have taken a couple of pictures, one as you can see i have posted here, but i'll take more tomorrow and check the rest of the car to make sure there is no further damage. I think the point is that most old ...

Mot Centre damaged my car
Hi, I took my 1966 convertible for an MOT today at my local MOT garage. When i collected it, they told me it had failed on steering gaitors (fair enough) , but that it also had a large hole in the front of the passenger side sill. I know the car very well, since i'm the only one who works on it. Whe...

Front brake cylinders.
I have just put back together my standard front brakes on a 1968 car and am having trouble refitting the drums. They are too tight a fit around the released (used) brake shoes. I think the brake cylinders might be at fault. I'm assuming the round seal fits around the top of the main cylinder body. W...

Re: Rear wheel bearing help.
I replaced both rear bearings/ oil seals etc today so thanks for all the advice. I managed to get the hubs off using the 'reverse half shaft' technique described above. They were tight, but that method worked perfectly, a great tip. The bearings are made by 'FAG' , so i think they should be ok. EP90...

Re: Rear wheel bearing help.
Damn, I missed out there. I am actually looking for a couple of later rear wheel hubs with the oil seal 'groove'. I'll put a post in the wanted section. I bought the bearings from ESM, the ones they sell were on a list of 'recommended' makes somewhere on this forum, so hopefully they should be ok. T...

Rear wheel bearing help.
I'm having to replace a rear wheel bearing, and have a few queries. 1. Is red grease suitable? 2. Should i pack out the hub /bearings with grease/how much grease should i use? 3.Does the paper gasket go on dry, or should i grease/oil it? 4.Do i also need to use a gasket sealant, or is it better with...

Re: 1969 Convertible Vin number..help please :)
From what i remember from previous research, and i stand to be corrected, I think many genuine convertibles actually had the coutesy light switch holes. So though a possible clue on early cars, I don't think its a reliable guide. I like the look of your clipper blue convertible by the way....one of ...

Re: 1969 Convertible Vin number..help please :)
Thanks for that. No wonder Fred only lasted a couple of years before being sacked, though i suspect they employed him again in the early 1970's
I'm seeing the car again, so will take a print out of your extra checks.

Re: 1969 Convertible Vin number..help please :)
I see what you mean. On the ' potteries branch' website, if they are correct, they indicate that your car would be a 2 door dark green saloon. I think the club member 'Pomreg' could help you more.

Re: 1969 Convertible Vin number..help please :)
Thanks very much for that information, it gives me anther level of checks when i view cars. I find it interesting looking at Morris's and trying to piece together the history. I'll post up any further adventures in the convertible hunt. With that in mind I have got another query on a car i have seen...
