Cheers, I'm sure it is oil. The cone/sleeve that fits over the axle that the seal runs on could be turned by hand before it was dismantled. I am wonderining if the seal was working but oil wasl getting underneath the sleeve? Also i thought a spinning sleeve would have made the squeak I could hear.

A tip I was given for cleaning contcts is to use an eraser. Do you know the old blue and red ones? I havent seen one for sale recently but apparently the red end is great for cleaning contacts and is less damagaing than emery and leaves the surface in a better condition.

Sounds very interesting indeed. I'm sure better versed people will weigh in but I have seen a period advert in a book of mine offering hard top conversions. Though I'm sure these have distinguishing characteristics. Good luck with the search.

I can seriously reccomend the book, best minor book i have and a must for anyone doing concors. Even though I am a member of the MMOC, as i'm not in the UK i found it cheaper to buy from a local distributor (because of the freight cahrges).
