It might be worth checking the battery too. My dynamo did exactly the same as yours. I think what happened was that the battery was on the way so and the dynamo was always being asked to charge it and so it burnt out. I then got a new dynamo and battery charger. I charged the battery for ages but it...

Got a new battery in the end and it works fine now. Fingers crossed. I checked the regulator as best as I could. I must recommend the place I got the battery from though. Midland Car Parts, Parcel Terrace, Derby. I phoned at lunchtime and they delivered in the afternoon all for £17! I think they onl...

Thanks for all the advice Ray and Kevin.

It certainly is a unique feeling when the bonnet doesn't open!

I'll give things a go this weekend. Any tips on oiling the dynamo when its in place?! Its a bit of a farse when you've taken it on and off so much.

Sounds like a nightmare. Im probably way off the mark here but do you have a temperature gauge fitted, if so might that be shorting out when hot? It does sound like something could be just expanding and contracting though breaking an electrical connection. Fat lead on back of coil maybe, or where it...

Cheers

Hi Ray, Im not sure if it was a bent brush holder or anything. I hadn't oiled it for a while so it could have been that making the noise. I would have attempted to find out what was wrong but the screws on the back plate were so tight I had no chance of getting in to it, so I phoned around for a new...

Dynamo and battery probs

Hi all, Ive been reading through all the related threads and picked up a few bits and pieces but heres my problem anyway: I recently had the dynamo burn out which was bad because it was only a few months old. I managed to get back on battery power and get a replacement dynamo. I also bought a batter...

This isnt about batteries, or gear levers. I would have posted in to general but I cant get in to it for some reason. I get the same message as someone pointed out in the website section. Anyway, Ive lost my membership renewal form. Is there a form I can get from the site somewhere? I had a quick lo...

Gear Levers

Just thought Id share this with you all. The gear lever for a 1098 box is actualy different to a lever for a 948 box. I found this out when I replaced my old 948 box with a 1098 box. I just resued the old shiny lever instead of using the one off the new box which was a bit more scruffy. While changi...

Might be a bit late catching this thread, but I'll go on anyway. I get the 'ding', exactly as you say. Was under the car the other day and found that when i turned the prop shaft quickly, it 'dinged' when it got to the end of its free play. I just thought it might be the free play between the cogs a...
