Re: Axle width

If the wheels were covered on the sellers car and the wheels are uncovered on your car and the seller had a standard axle fitted then the seller must have fitted wider wings. 2" wider wings are readily available. I have them fitted to the rear of my Minor.

Could you not just ask the seller what axle they had had in their Minor?

Re: Axle width

The rim on a 5.5J wheel is placed central about the centre of the wheel whereas a banded wheel usually has the band placed/added to the outer face of the wheel rim. That process will cause the wheel/tyre to protrude past the outer edge of the wheel arch. The width of the axle for a Morris 1000 is th...

Re: Propshaft UJ issues

It appears that the new UJ is 90 degrees out.
Turning the UJ by 90 degrees so as to align the grease nipple with the recess should cause no problems as regards balance.

Re: 1098 Carb

There are no spindle bushes in the body of a SU HS2 carb.
They can be retro fitted by utilising the repair kit supplied by Burlen fuels.
Fitting the bushes is not a complicated job but does require care.

Re: O ring valve stem seal fitment

As regards the 'O' ring type seal you might as well leave them off for all the good they do. The 'O' ring goes over the top of the valve stem and slides down into the bottom of the valve stem collet groove. The collets hold the seal to the bottom of the collet groove. The seal that does work is the ...

Re: 1098 oil pressure light pressure.

It is always better to get an early indication of low oil pressure. I have a 20lb/sq in oil pressure switch fitted to my Minor:- ttps://www.minispares.com/product/Classic/Engine/Block/Oil_pumps/HPS1.aspx?100109&ReturnUrl=/search/classic/oil%20pressure%20switch.aspx|Back%20to%20searchh a oil pres...

Re: Breather issue ???

What number/letters are quoted on the carb tag attached to the float chamber?
Once we have the answer to the above question no doubt an answer will be forthcoming.
I suspect that you do not have the correct carb and/or main jet needle.

Re: 1098 oil pressure light pressure.

Specified in BMC workshop manual Part No: AKD530L, Part AA, section AA.4 Oil Pressure - the low oil pressure warning light will glow (light up) when the oil pressure falls below 8lb/sq in.

Re: Layshaft rollers

With the longer layshaft roller bearing there is no requirement to fit the outer circlips.
Do not use any epoxy glue or any other means to retain the roller bearings.
The longer roller bearings without the outer circlips will not cause any problem and is now the norm.

Re: Oil

My quote should be taken as a 'tongue in cheek' comment and not taken too seriously. Even after refining it is still several million years old 8) - so could be classed as S/H. When I worked in the BMC garage one of the mechanics had a Morris traveller, he used to drain Morris Minor gearboxes,...

Re: Oil

Considering that the oil is several million years old a few extra millennia is not going to hurt.
Only when contaminates are added to the oil does the need to consider changing the oil occur.

No ................
The gearbox oil does not get contaminated with engine crud so in theory it could go on for ever.

Re: Gearboxes

Les I have used 948cc, 1098cc and 1275cc gearboxes in my Minor and found very little difference in everyday use between the Minor and MG gearboxes. The only real difference is that as the engines got bigger the gearboxes got stronger. 12G229 is the gearbox fitted to the 1275cc Midget/Sprite. The spe...
