Painting fibre glass ?

Any tips on painting fibre glass ? I am doing a bit of tarting up on my Mog before it gets used at a wedding in December and am replacing the rusted, rotten bumper valances with fibre glass ones. They are a nice cream colour and have a great smooth finish. If they look good when fitted I may leave t...

Found the source of oil on rear brakes.

After many posts, much head scratching, innumerable gaskets, O rings and oil seals, it seems I've been barking up the wrong tree for some time. :( Cleaned and polished the hub sealing face to within and inch (or should that be 4/1000 of an inch  ) of its life, put in a new gasket, gasket gunk ...

Rear axle and bearing and oil seal gap.

More to the point, should there be one ? Pulling my hair out with oil leak along half shaft and onto rear brakes. Oil seal changed, bearing changed while at it. Confirmed correct orientation of oil seal from numerous sources ! New rear hub gasket and big rubber "O ring" In the pictures you...

Re: Beehive spring, rear brakes, necessary ?

I have found the solution to the ******* beehive springs ! On a dull winter's night a few years ago, I scanned all the tech tips in my stash of Minor Matters. Today I found an article on brake adjustment, and there I found the answer "Make a small notch in the end of an old screwdriver to make ...

Re: Beehive spring, rear brakes, necessary ?

Have bitten the bullet and bought some rather pricey originals off e-bay. More than I need, but hey ho.

Beehive spring, rear brakes, necessary ?

While working on my rear brakes, I have found that my beehive springs had been replaced by some nice shiney new ones. Try as I might, I couldn't remove them the way I have always done so for the past 20 years. i.e. press in with long nosed pliers, twist/turn and they should pop off the lug on the ba...

Re: Help ID front brake cylinder parts

Thanks. On inspection of the cylinders, all 4 were rusted and scored so I bought 3 new ones to go with the one I have.
I have put one of those wee rubber caps in the original, between the white cap and the piston, I think that's right, we'll see in a few days when I put everything back together !

Help ID front brake cylinder parts

I found in my collection of spares, a nice new one bought in 1994, which has a spring, cap and piston as shown in the picture. On the old cylinder, I have the cylinder, a piston with a machined groove (with a rather worn rubber seal ) and on O ring. Is this an "original". Is there anything...

Re: rear hub oil seal

Thanks for that info, especially the diagram, reassured that I have put the seal in the right way round. I have read lots of posts on here about the hub seal and it should be easy, but I still seem to struggle. I still cannot suss out where the wee drain hole is meant to be :o Also agree that it see...

Re: rear hub oil seal

Back at it again. Car was sorted by a Morris "expert" (advertised in Minor Matters) and MOT'd this time last year. Now just failed with . . . oil on brakes, leaking along half shaft. Having read lots of threads on here, I ordered up the bits and am trying it myself. Only trouble I've had i...

Re: rear hub oil seal

I have a similar problem, but rather than a wee bit of oil, I have the drum flooded with oil and dripping out onto the wheel an tyre. I replaced the O ring and gasket and the problem persists. The volume of oil coming out has dropped, but that's probably because the diff has nearly run dry ! ...

Re: Side light flashing instead of indicator

You wonderful people, that's the indicator working again.
The small clips that the retaining screws on the car body go into were very claggy with road grime. A bit of WD40 and a polish with sand paper was all it took.

Oil covered brakes now !

Re: Side light flashing instead of indicator

Thanks for all those tips. My money is on the earthing.
It was all working fine, then another motorist behind me in a queue warned me of my intermittant brake light - that's when I found the indicator fault.

Now found an oil leak down the axle onto a rear break, so I've that to work on as well !

Side light flashing instead of indicator

Back on the road for a while before another electrical gremlin. When indicating left, my left front side light flashes instead of the indicator. Rear indicator is fine. I replaced the base unit as it was very rusted, but that didn't fix it. Have checked as many earths in the engine bay as I c...

Re: Non start trouble shooter

As ever, it was a simple problem. Doing the electrics in a gloomy garage in winter wasn't a good idea. I had connected the brown/yellow on from the alternator to the brown/green on the loom. Only took me 3 months to notice :o ! Never mind, it kept the car away from the salty roads over the winter. :...
