Re: Pretentious Experts

I would have thought they were referring to a patch of metal simply welded over the existing rotten metal, in which case they'd be right. I just spent £3200 before VAT redoing my chassis, my car passed MOT but was unsafe to drive. The gentleman doing the work was shocked by some of the repairs. If ...

EBay, Grumpys in the motors section. Use search on here for threads about them, I don't recall complaints about them.

I want a brighter, darker red. Gonna repaint my almond green one when I get it back to the US.
Gotta change the interior to a nice black.

Re: external sunvisor

I love my visor.
I don't drive over 50~55 mph.
I am 6 feet tall and don't have issues but don't have many stoplights in the area.

Re: Chasing Classic Cars,Fast and Load,Counting Cars,Overhaulin

I find chasing classic cars a bit old too quickly.
I like the others you list, a lot as well as Wheeler Dealers.
Didn't like Fantom Works so much.

Fast and Loud is my favorite, though.

Sounds like someone decided to install the driveline from a mini. I hope they knew what they were doing.

Re: Austin 1970 pickup from Guatemala

The half of the seal you added after the crankshaft was in, it keeps the oil in by close clearance to the crank and grooves running counter to the direction of rotation to wind oil back in. It must be set to proper clearance if it is like the engine in my old Triumph.

Re: New Stearing wheel

You can consider it a sarky one-liner, but it is sound advice. Before you spend money on something that works, find out why you have an indicator light on that could be signaling major work/damage in your future. You could be in the middle of slow destruction of your engine, so ensuring the lubricat...

It's just bore x stroke. Mic the bore and measure bottom of the stroke to the top in the bore. That takes care of displacement if it's been modified...

Re: Clutch & Gearbox replacement project

The replacement is an alloy, not just copper. Supposedly copper is too brittle when exposed to vibrations. The shaping isn't difficult but you do need a tool. I use a little hand tool that cost ~$5 when I bought it 10 years ago.

Re: Pickup restoration part three

Not sure of your particular multimeter, but the first pic appears to show an open (you have it on 2 Meg and it displays a 1 but no decimals) and the second pic shows a short (closed switch). Regardless, the next post shows no power to the motor. Sort that first, then work on the switch.

Re: SEAT BELT PUZZLE

Hi guys Thanks for your comments. The manufacturer's fitting instructions say the reels must be mounted vertically. I did experiment by turning the reel in the direction of the top mount but the belt just locked. I found a post from the Mk1 forum (thanks Tim), which confirms this: "Yes, they n...
