Re: Lacking that certain spark
I wasn't replacing an old lucas, I've never had one since I've had this car (replaced by a previous owner I assume), I was replacing a pattern one.

Re: Lacking that certain spark
We have lift off! having now replaced everything in the dizzy and upgrading to the high quality condensor and rotor arm, along with a new lucas coil and a clean up of the earth on the battery, she started running. I didn't get a chance to actually drive her, because of a 'pfft' sound coming from som...

Re: Lacking that certain spark
Sorry for the delay in reply, today has been the first chance I've had to look at her since I posted. My battery is now fully charged and it turns out the rotor arm was partially to blame, so I'm now getting a weak spark at the plugs. unfortunately too weak for the engine to fire though. Seeing as i...

Re: Lacking that certain spark
Yeah, I found that very odd as well, and why I assumed it was not purely due to low battery. The spark I was getting at the coil was from the king lead going from the coil to the body, so I assumed both of those were fine? Unless I'm missing something I seem to have chased the fault somewhere betwee...

Re: Lacking that certain spark
Unfortunately its a little spark at the points. The condenser had occurred to me as well, so I've swapped it out for a spare (brand new) Lucas one I had and it's the same situation.

Lacking that certain spark
Hi, My battery had run flat, due to sitting, but when I tried jump starting her she ran at idle for about 5 minutes before suddenly dropping out (both cars still connected, donor still running). On inspection I no longer have a spark at the plugs (or HT leads). I've checked through and have a spark ...

Re: Engine change. Re: Engine change.
Thought it probably wouldn't, but I have a mate with a load of rebuilt 998s so I could have got one cheap.
948s are seeming to be quite elusive when I look, only coming up rebuilt 1098s or 948s in unknown running state.

Re: Engine change.
Sorry for delay in response, I've been up to my eyeballs in uni work. I will upgrade the engine, as I'm soon to be needing it for a commute. How long does an engine swap take with a friend, a spanner and a jack?
Would a mini 998 fit the current gear box?

Re: Engine change.
It has a bypass oil filter, which I thought was only on 803s? Re: Engine change.
Let's see a picture of the engine... I have no idea what a 'small end casing is' - sounds like BS to me.... And yes - the 803 is a very weak thing - especially the crankshaft. A 948 will be much better - and is a straight swap. You don't need any fancy equipment to change a Minor engine. Rem...

Engine change.
My car has developed a death rattle, which I've been told is either a shattered big end or small end casing. (don't worry, I haven't driven it since the rattle occurred). Obviously, it needs sorting, but I'm a student with no access to equipment necessary to remove the engine, so I'll be using a mec...

Re: Hazard lights?
The MOT requirements falls into the catagery that if fitted they must work - from the MOT Inspection Manual: 'Hazard warning devices are not required on vehicles first used before 1 April 1986, but if one is fitted it must be tested.' The glory of this set up is that it can be taken off in the car ...

Re: Clutch relay housing
Just thought I'd update, I've replaced the chassis side housing and brush, and all is once again good with Trudy.
It really was as easy as everyone said (other than taking quite a while, and some exotic language, to line up the holes in the housing; the spacer; and the chassis)

Re: Clutch relay housing
Thanks every one, that's what I wanted to hear.
Unfortunately, I've already ordered the parts and need this done by Saturday really, so the gearbox side brush won't come in time, I wouldn't have thought. But if it's an easy job, as you say, I'm sure I'll be able to replace the gearbox side soon.

Clutch relay housing
So I was a just adjusting my clutch; and when I tested it, this happened: [frame] http://mmoc.org.uk/mbimage.php?src=1357745598_16899 [/frame] I've ordered a new housing and brush, but what I want to know is do I have to dismantle the whole assembly, or can I just remove the old housing and slip the...

Re: Hazard lights?
Sorry meant the one Onion mentioned "Combined flasher and hazard" Would rather do it on the cheap as £70 seem an awful lot for a bit of wiring and a switch/relay. Thanks, Lewis http://morrisminorspares.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?products_id=1793&osCsid=6d997a795bc674077c46e89f0ef1711...

Re: Hazard lights?
they work fine though
Illuminated switch: £9:40
Combined flasher and hazard:£6.60
Sorry, it was £16, not £15.
No more careful than making sure you've not left your normal lights on, surely?

Re: Hazard lights?
The way I did it probably isn't the best way about it, but here goes anyway: As I didn't want to pay the £84 to the usuals, for something that seemed so straight forward. I wired an illuminated switch between the left and right terminals on the indicator, and replaced the standard 3 terminal flasher...

Hi Tom, I'm Avram, I'm a young member (currently a student in Sheffield) there are now 3 of us in Sheffield that I know of. As you may have noticed, the young members don't tend to post much on the board as young members. We tend to exist more on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/groups/MMOCYM/ come...
