Starting my engine after a few months standing
I've not started my car up since around the late September time (a mixture of cold weather and salty roads plus my aching hips and knees has meant it's been in the garage all this time). I'm wanting to get it out soon to start doing a few bits before the warmer weather and was wondering if there is ...

Re: Starter Motor to Solenoid Cable
Yeh I could do that, this one is quite a lot longer and looks nice. A straight one will do, it just looks good being a tight "corner" fit at the moment - probably being fussy

Starter Motor to Solenoid Cable
Hello everyone, I'm replacing this cable because mine has been patched up such a lot it's more or less all black insulating tape now, it's incredibly fraid and starting to show the bare wires through too. I found a lead with a spade on each end but the one I have now has an angled spade on the end t...

Re: Lumpy after filling dashpot
Maybe I have been putting too much in, it's hard to see so I just put in what I think. Yes it's like a "gasp" BMC, like the feeling when you try to accelorate without any choke when its cold.

Lumpy after filling dashpot
I filled my dashpot up with oil as it was quite low yesterday. I've noticed this a few times now - everytime I fill it up the car runs a bit lumpy like its stuttering ever so slightly for a while afterwards. Could I be using the wrong oil or something? I put 3 in 1 in it.

Re: Cigarette Lighter from Battery?
Ow I don't know what to do now haha. What are the dissadvantages of going direct from the battery?
I read that I can see which spade in the fusebox comes live with the ignition on but I read somewhere that somebody blew some electrics doing that.

Cigarette Lighter from Battery?
I've just been reading the posts on here about cigarette lighters. I was wondering if it's OK to just connect the positive to the positive battery terminal with an inline fuse and then earth it as normal? My reason for doing it this way is I don't really want to mess around with my fusebox much or p...

Changing Plug Leads
I had a look at my plug leads today - I have some new old stock ones I want to fit as mine are looking messy. I'm just wondering what I do with the ends of the new leads though. At the moment the ends are simply cut, but my dizzy cap requires you to push the lead in and then tighten a screw with a p...

4.22 Diff in an 803?
Has anybody tried a 4.22 diff in their 803cc engine? I was wondering whether it would not have enough power but some people say it's and other don't

Re: Wiring a Rev Counter
I just thought it would be nice to have as I've got it. It's a negative earth, 4 cylinder counter, have you any ideas on where the wires connect to?

Wiring a Rev Counter
My friend has given me a few bits and bobs and this includes a rev counter so I thought I may as well fit it as I have it. I've read up (and searched on here) but there is nothing that actually tells me "where" the wires go to as such. I've never done anything wiring wise. Would someone be...

Re: Jerky / being held back when cruising
Just to update on this, I checked most of what Roy suggested and the spark plugs were a little darker than tan but not too bad, so i cleaned them. My friend gave me a whole new (used) distributor from a MM he no longer uses and it's solved the problem completely. Thanks for your help everyone.

Re: Jerky / being held back when cruising
Thats interesting Tom - did it give the engine more speed too as mine feels like it's got in there somewhere but something is pulling it back. I think I will replace it and see what happens!

Re: Jerky / bring held back when cruising
I was starting to think distributor problems could be the answer. But I'm not sure how to diagnose a distributor as I've always stayed away from them - what can I do?

Jerky / being held back when cruising
Went for a good long drive in my car today. All was well overall but when I get to the 40 / 45 mph mark it seems pretty flat out. Also at this speed it feels lumpy / jerky as if it wants to go on further but it's being held back by something. The timing is fine, carb seems fine, air filter fine, bra...

Hi Alec, there are no marks I can see - I've had a really good luck around. I will try what you said below - do you mean number 1 is down its near enough?

Finding TDC
Hello, I was just wondering how to find TDC without the timing marks? I am fitting a new distributor and after doing so would like to check the timing and so on so that it's all as it should be. Problem is, I dont have the marks to show where TDC is.

Re: Top Speed in a series II
I would suggest that Mr. Morris has the wrong speedo for a 4.55 axle. I took the sat nav out with it and my speedo is actually 2mph faster than it should be. I don't know why it's so slow - I thought that was the "norm" for the size of engine, but after reading this thread perhaps somethi...
