Re: A+ fitting

Perfect. Thanks again

And I haven't met him, but my Dad met Rob Walker when he took him a MGC straight-six for some work recently and said he was in his sixties, and he was hobbling about having recently dropped a engine on his foot...

Re: A+ fitting

Once again, thanks very much for the precise advice. I will ask what exactly has been done to the box. It is up for sale from an MG specialist, so I'd hope they'd know. http://www.robwalkerengineering.com is pretty much a two man operation and Rob Walker himself answers the phone so he is very much ...

Re: A+ fitting

Ok. Sorry to come back again... Should I treat myself to a 1275 Midget box? As I understand, these have better quality bearings. Have a chance for a rebuilt one at sensible money. The 1098 box in my car is ok, to the best of my knowledge. Worth doing? If so, do I go for a 1098 Minor clutch, 1275 Mid...

Re: Austin/Morris day at Brooklands in Surrey

I am thinking of limping my car there - as a last hurrah for the original engine before a 1275 conversion which is imminent. Does anyone know whether it is a simple 'roll-up' event or do you need to book in?

Re: Austin/Morris day at Brooklands in Surrey

I'm going for a wander around, although the car is on the transplant list. She's severely oil incontinent and running very badly so unlikely to make the journey. I went last year though and had a great day, so am looking forward to it. What cars am I looking out for? I'll try and pop over to say hel...

Re: A+ fitting

Thanks for the answer. New oil pump is on the shopping list already! With regard to cams, presumably new followers are a given, but do I need to consider the rockers with a cam upgrade? Or is that only for quite hairy set-ups? I've looked up the various cam options and really want something for bett...

A+ fitting

Dear all I've got two 1275 engines - one A-series and one A+ - Both need rebuilding before fitting and I am hoping somebody can offer some advice! First up, any reason I should favour the A+ over the 'A' - Both are Marina / Ital units and both will be sent off for machining. Is the A+ stronger? Seco...

Re: disabled car

Back to this thread after many months! Just got my heritage certificate - it says the destination / dealer for my car was M.O.H. - (Ministry of Health?) sales order 11279 Factory fitted kit included the extra sun visor, fresh air heater, fixed-seat belts and underseal (which didn't work BTW) Hope th...

Re: making a van into a campervan?

Space will always be a bit tight, but that hasn't stopped people converting lots of little commercials. The Maestro Tandy was one of the more recent ones - Bit of info here - http://www.chriswicks.co.uk/tandy01.html. Romahome still make a tiny one based on the Citroen Nemo - http://www.romahome.com/...

Re: How many people own a trafalgar blue morris minors

Sorry - bit late spotting this thread. I've a 1969 2-door saloon ex-disability car - owned since 1993 - LFX 675G. Most disability kit now gone as I didn't realise what it all meant (plain door cards, slotted chassis leg, body-colour grill and window frames) but the sliding seat remains!

Re: who went to brooklands? (pics)

Hello, I went along to Brooklands. Lovely (cold) weather and there was a great display of Minors - probably the best represented model there. Well done to all. Liked the brown Minor trailer amongst others but my choice of what to take home would have had to be one of those Austin A60 Suntor camper v...

You can get it from Machine Mart for just over a fiver, and that is ready diluted. I buy concentrate and mix it a ratio of about 15:1. http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/range/details/clarke-power-washer-consumables/path/consumables There are loads of eBay shops selling it, but I use the Machine Mart...

Dilute traffic film remover is great for underbonnet cleaning - good for loosening oil and grease - but make sure it is dilute as in neat form it can mark the paint. You apply it, leave it for a few minutes and rinse it off afterwards. I use a watering can for rinsing though as a hose or pressure wa...

Sorry PSL,

I meant 'film of oil' - just like I get in the air filter.

Thing is, I'm not sure the aly rocker cover has a vented cap, and if that is the case, it would explain the pressurisation?

Great info though, so thanks all

wibble_puppy,

Does yours have a breather on the side of the engine like mine?

Cheers for the advice.

One thing though. If I do that, presumably that will hook up to the air cleaner. What do I connect the breather on the side of the engine to? If it just goes to the atmosphere, won't that cover the engine bay in oil?

This is the view of the manifold side of the engine with the breather shown bottom of the pic near the centre - the hose has been removed for the photo along with the air cleaner it attaches to - the alloy rocker cover replaced a standard pressed steel one with no breather, but there is some sort of...
