Vin numbers - again!
Another discussion on the subject. Have a 'dual personality' traveller here, with a vin number I'm not familiar with. Number is MAW5D 1______ then ends with a G (which has peaked my curiosity, I've not seen it before). Car was from Antrim, so is this something to do with CKD? Thanks in advamce, as a...

Automatic box conversion
I know this has probably been covered several times, but I'm specifically after anyone who has done a conversion themselves if possible. Asking on behalf of someone else, who needs to fit an auto box to his Minor as he still wants to drive it (and has sentimental value to said car). I'm instinctivel...

Re: Traveller '68 - Left Hand drive conversion
Just finished a '71 Traveller (converted to LHD) that had all the holes in the l/h chassis leg for the pedal shaft/master cylinder.
Perhaps the chassis leg on yours has been replaced in the past?

Re: 6v to 12v conversion and Alternator conversion question
We had a '41 Diamond T 969A that had a similar setup as BMC describes. The electrics were all 6 volt, save the starter that used another 6 volt battery to give a 12V start as BMC describes. Not 100% familiar how the recharging system was wired in fairness, but it worked well. Well, well enough (we d...

You could just buy an unknown box near you off eBay for £20-£50 to use as your exchange box.

Re: VW engines for Minors?
Similar to a Jowett flat 4 if I recall correctly.
Supposedly abandoned as there was too much cabin noise from the engine, so relied instead on the trusty 'Morris 8' engine.

Re: Help!
Is this while the engine is running or just when the ignition is on but the engine is not started? The orange lamp is a low oil pressure warning lamp, the one below is the ignition warning lamp that shows the battery is not charging. It may be the units themselves have been swapped about over the ye...

Re: Reversing camera
A customer wanted one fitting, we fitted it. I don't see the harm in fitting one personally, it's not exactly a bad thing to have.
We got the screen and camera as a kit, they use conventional plugs for the camera so imagine you can get a replacement unit.

Re: Unusual places people stop to talk about your Minor
I once had the West Yorkshire constabulary follow me into a parking space in Asda.
I was rather concerned as you can imagine, though it transpired the officer merely wanted a picture as his dad had one in the 70's!

Re: Are classic cars for everyday use?
The question is more aptly 'are you willing to drive a classic car every day?'. My Traveller was stood In a garden since 2001, I got it back on the road last October (after considerable welding) and it now covers 55 miles 6 days a week, I have driven it to a France and back and it has never let me d...

Re: not starting
To rule out poor earths, try a jumper cable from the earth terminal to the engine block (the front plate is a good place to try). If not already suggested, you could try a jumper cable also from the starter terminal to the battery positive terminal (non earth) and seeing whether the starter turns th...

Re: radial tyres putting extra load on suspension
Poly bushes would have a similar effect, no? I've run poly bushes for over 30,000 miles on my Minor with no adverse effects, though it is greased every other weekend (do 1000 miles a fortnight in mine). More of a problem is wider tyres/rims I imagine, though not on the trunnion. I've seen fatigue of...

Re: not starting
The button for the starter switch is in between those two terminals.
I would try that first before bridging terminals.
Use a punch or similar if the button is a little stiff, saves thumb ache!

Re: Transporting Minor by trailer to National Rally.
It is unusual that at least some of those who object to a Minor turning up on a trailer won't actually be bringing a Minor to the Nationals at all!
Just saying.
