The base plate moves fine with suction.
I haven't checked the bob weights yet...will do.

I'd be grateful for any advice on my timing. My traveller has a 1300 Ital engine, HIF44 carb (from a metro GTA I think) and electronic ignition. I can get it running nicely with the dizzy at a certain position but if I try to start the car with the dizzy at this position it kicks against the starter...
I managed to sort it out eventually.
Moving the rear suspension arm along the T bar really was a struggle and took a lot of hammering.
Now for the other side...
I'm really struggling to get the rear suspension arm to budge along the T bar. It seems to be completely stuck on the cup shaped spigot. I've tried loads of plusgas and have let it seep in while I was away on holiday for a week but still no joy. Keep wacking it with various mallets. Any good tips on...
Hi I'm replacing my eye bolt bushes but I'm struggling to get my suspension dismantled. Specifically I can't undo the nut attaching the front arm to the back arm that is nearest the chassis leg. It just spins round and I can't get to the nut on the other side as the torsion bar is still slotted into...
Just had a poke around underneath
Chassis leg looks fine can't feel any cracks
It's definitely coming from the eye bolt
I'll order some poly bushes for top and bottom
I'm getting an increasing squeaky sound from the front near side suspension on my convertible. I've topped up the oil in the dampers with SAE 30 (couldn't find SAE 40). I'm wondering if the rubber bushes at the top, where the lever arm goes through the swivel pin are worn through but I'm not sure as...
Thanks
I took off the old regulator and replaced it with another from my store of spares.
Same problem.
Haven't checked the first one yet but thought it would be unlikely that both were faulty.
Could it be anything else?
Hi My ignition light has just started to stay on after the ignition is switched off and the keys removed from the barrel (engine not running). It goes off when the ignition is switched on and the engine is running as per normal. Any ideas why it is staying on when the car is switched off? Many thank...
Thanks everyone I've tried 2 starter motors so far, I spent some time cleaning the bendix and the most recent one did seem to move freely (no grease). I haven't checked the bushes. I'll recheck all the earths. I did wonder about the engine being tight. I haven't got a starter dog but I can turn it o...
Hi Grateful for any advice. I'm having problems starting my traveller (1275 ital engine) The starter motor really labours and sometimes the starter motor gets stuck in the ring gear and has to be shifted out with the car in top gear. The battery is a new one (same problem with old battery) and the p...

The battery is on charge after petering out!
If the leads are set so that number 1 lead faces the rotor arm when number one cylinder is at TDC on compression then shouldn't that fire up?
If I swap the leads 2 places then won't I be 180 degrees out?
I've dried the plugs and cleaned them up.
The leads are in the right order based on the no 1 lead coming off the distributor where the rotor arm is at TDC on cylinder 1 (pointing about 8 o clock).
It still isn't firing...not sure what I've missed.
I changed the dizzy on my ital 1275 engine as the previous one had a broken vacuum advance unit and the car wasn't running well. The new one is an accuspark electronic ignition unit. I set no 1 to TDC took the old dizzy out and connected up the new one...no joy. I'm getting a spark at all plugs and ...
Hi folks, I've just tested my vacuum advance and after sucking on the pipe there was no movement of the baseplate in the dizzy. The pipe is patent and I successfully tested it on another dizzy (not one that is suitable for my 1275 ital engine unfortunately). I'd be grateful for advice on how to fix ...
Driving home yesterday I noticed a noise from the front nearside wheel. When I got home I investigated to find the wheel wobbling worryingly on the stub axel. I thought it must be the hub bearing but looking closer the 4 bolts attaching the calliper braket to the king pin had come loose. Two questio...
