Re: Ghost plates
I had an acquaintance who was pretty well off. He purchased an Aston Martin, used but in great shape. Unbeknown to him it had a speed camera scrambler fitted, the boys in blue, a lady in blue to be exact pulled him over and advised he would be prosecuted. At great expense the court case was conteste...

Re: Is it worth it to export to the USA?
Aston Martin. Indeed a very good point. At my level, shopfloor, I wonder how important foreign ownership is. A couple of folks mention it, but if the shop floor is productive, employees are paying taxes and mortgages, then which national owns it only becomes relevant when it forms decisions as to wh...

Re: Is it worth it to export to the USA?
Ford still make diesel engines in Dagenham, 2 models, but discussions are going on ref switching to manufacture of electric propulsion systems. Vauxhall make electric vans in the U.K. Honda shut Swindon when we left fortress Europe, That was much more than just assembly, I visited there and supplied...

The main or largest factory is JLR, Jaguar Land Rover where the Jags and Range Rovers are made, employing directly around 12k people and lots more through suppliers of course. Mini owned by BMW are made in Oxford, though some of the electric models are Chinese made. MG are built in China, also a fac...

Re: Is it worth it to export to the USA?
Hi Mike. There are people making a living in Japan importing older British cars and selling them at what we would feel are over inflated prices. There is a distinct advantage though, they drive on the same side of the road as us. The steering wheel on the left hand side is a definite disadvantage he...

Re: Compression test
My final thoughts are this. Number 4 cylinder is well down, the rockers are worn, the front oil seal leaks and she does not have yet a lead free head or duplex chain.. So I think I am going to plumb for a reconned engine with everything sorted. At 98k miles without major repairs I think its time. Sh...

They look good and I speak from experience when I say comfortable too. A word of warning though. As an owner of both a Minor and an MG TF, I and all F and TF owners will tell you those bolsters wear. The bolsters protrude so much you will catch them with your backside on entry and exit, every time. ...

Compression test
Morning all,
I thought as a matter of course I would attempt a compression test.
The engine is a 1098, bog standard, can anyone tell me what sort of readings in p.s.i. I should look for ?
Thanks.

Re: Shri Lanka patch panels
I reckon there are different suppliers from Sri Lanka. When Charles Ware established spares supply over there, ( see the "the businessman the buddhist and the Morris Minor" on you tube.) The training and tooling at that point were pretty good. I got a wing from Sri Lanka and apart from the...

Mine is also smoke grey blue.
Duotone seat covers were no longer available on production models after 1964, but I flew against my usual mantra of keep it standard by fitting them to this, my 1965 saloon.
I am pleased I did.

I did wonder if seal kit replacements are available or indeed possible? If that is what is wrong, weepy seals that is? But on searching the web I found reconned units available for 50 quid and new ones at 100. https://www.morrisminorspares.com/front-suspension-c47/front-suspension-all-models-c71/fro...

Mine is a 1965 with the glovebox lid only on the passenger side. I always thought the opening lid on the drivers side a bit odd and awkward to open/close with the steering wheel in the way. Particularly as the magnetic catches age and the lids can pop open uninvited at a moments notice. Berni's ill...

Re: E.S.M. workshop.
There is what may be termed a real disconnect in engineering companies, particularly some garages. The disconnect is the lack of understanding regarding the importance of customer service regardless of engineering expertise. The best of them still do not understand the need for communication, even t...

I recall the "dished" original steering wheel being designed for safety reasons under impact. It was termed the "dished safety steering wheel" a good reason perhaps for keeping it. Additionally the soft sun visors for the same reason, I would warn people off fitting perspex tinte...

I think this installation of inertia reels very tidy indeed.
For my part I fitted none inertia types, simply in keeping with the times, I am still not sure when inertia reels came in to being.
But either way it doesnt matter really.
We have them for the grandkids kiddy seats.
