Re: Maurice hiccoughs

Hi All You Knowledgeable People, Maurice has had a new coil and a new battery....and he runs nicely once again. What fun I had with the heater; getting it out was bad enough getting it back in....well Morris engineers must have had children as slaves - people with very small fingers for getting nuts...

Maurice hiccoughs

Hi, it is me again, the fool who knows nothing! Maurice has been in rude health for a while now and has very happily chugged around my parishes. THEN one day, pootling along, a sudden jerk, just for a tenth of a second, as if there was a misfire..... last Saturday I drove to Ashford - about 20 miles...

Ha not on the winding country lanes round here thanks very much.

Re: Put on your thinking caps

And Thank you ALL for your really helpful replies. The alternator is on. Maurice works well. Headlights are bright. Battery stays charged. The little meter flickers away telling me what is going out and I KNOW that lots is going in. We are both happy. I will be even happier once the heater fan has b...

Re: Put on your thinking caps

Thanks to ALL
I shall simply ignore the little dial.
I'm off out in Maurice in a while and am confident that all will be well.

Now, must fix that heater!

Re: Put on your thinking caps

So it sounds as if everything is tickety boo then? I can drive AT NIGHT without fear of ending up stranded up a country lane....and I just shan't look at the ammeter any more! Hey thanks chaps for all your helpful advice and your kind support. Nobody has told me a surefire way to get that black nobb...

Re: Put on your thinking caps

I suspect your alternator is feeding power directly to the battery and not through the ammeter. The meter is only showing current going to the cars systems. To put that another way, is the big wire from the alternator going directly to the battery (as it should)? Ammeters are not good in alternator...

Re: Put on your thinking caps

Hi, Thanks for that. Right...... headlights on....quite bright. Engine started easily. Revved the engine and red light went out headlights did get brighter as I revved - quite discernibly, and when I lifted my foot and the engine returned to idle the lights got markedly dimmer again. the needle on t...

Re: Put on your thinking caps

THANKYOU for the two wiring diagrams. I'll compare yours for the alternator with the one sent by Bull Motif. and the other one actually tells me how to connect the heater; and presumably, as the wire is still attached at the valve, and the valve is opening and closing freely, yet there is no way of ...

Re: Put on your thinking caps

Okay, I have been for quite a drive round my churches this afternoon; dared to put on the side lights too! Even used the headlights when going into the garage. When the lights go on the needle goes to the left - the discharge side; with side lights it goes half a notch, and with full beam it goes 2 ...

Re: Put on your thinking caps

Right chaps, thanks for all that! Headlights were good and bright yesterday when I tried them. Little dial (is an ammeter then...who knows, I don't...but I think it is) stays in the middle or slightly to the discharge side. When the problem was briefly fixed the needle did go right to the right hand...

Put on your thinking caps

HI All, Maurice's health is improving; I have replaced the clutch adjustment rod so I can now drive him. I have removed the dynamo and put on a shiny new alternator. He starts enthusiastically. BUT (Why oh why must there be buts??) the little ammeter in the car shows that there is a discharge when t...

Re: DIY Virgin yet more please!!

Thank you all for useful advice. I had a grovel abut underneath.... found a "tent peg" dangling...which I have identified as the clutch adjst rod; it has sheared off near the end that attaches to the clutch and springy thingy. I have ordered a new one. I have gone for broke and ordered an ...

FIRST a huge THANK YOU to people who have helped. Maurice has been serviced and his engine gearbox etc, brakes all run nicely and he's so much quieter. The electrical fault was fixed........for a while....and then yesterday, on the way to a funeral, down the Thanet Way at 55mph the red light came on...

DIY virgin needs urgent help!

Hi All you knowledgeable people, Maurice is unwell. I have had him for 9 months now and he has started on the button every time. Recently I have used the headlights....and almost immediately the battery had died. Swapped the battery. New points, new plugs, new condenser, air filter changed, oil filt...
