What size nut do I need for the threaded end torsion bar?

Nothing I've got fits and "torsion bar nut" isn't throwing up any search results.

Picked up a carb dirt cheap and want a starting point to work from, what needle do others find works well?

Found the cause of the cutting out, exhaust is blocked somehow.
I can barely even blow down it, no wonder the engine couldn't breath properly and kept popping the pipe off at the manifold.


While it's in bits now's the time to upgrade the engine with the bits I've accumulated methinks.

They are versions of the same engine, although I wouldn't automatically assume parts are interchangeable as there were a lot of variants over the years

Head gasket blew today, whether it was the cause or an effect I don't know

When I rev the engine, instead of it coming back down to normal idle speed, it starts struggling, and goes right down below idle and starts struggling... half the time it just about recovers after a few seconds and goes back to idling smoothly again. Been trying to eliminate variables so far I've go...

But it's a tiny range of adjustment that it needs to be within and will likely be thrown out by slight differences in conditions. -maybe this is what you'd need sensors and injection for, constantly adjusting themselves. I did check the piston was moving today - and maybe I shouldn't wait till 11pm before posting

If anything it's more when it's warmed up - on fast idle with the "choke" it doesn't do it.

Every few seconds at idle the car will miss slightly - then the revs will go straight back up to normal idle. Goes away if I hold the revs high and never occurs while driving. - I can get it to do it at just above idle but it doesn't seem to occur any faster - same interval between misses. It happen...

Have had the car up and been under, no marks to evidence rubbing on anything...

Nothing rotten, I'd swear the previous owner must have replaced (or recon'd) the back axle and springs so I'm still stumped.

Maybe I've got shorter bump stops than most, so the axle is able to travel higher up and potentially let the prop hit something?

Springs are decent and they look new-ish, no lowering and bump stops are there.
